TPMS on second set- no reprogram needed
About a year and a half ago, I bought a second set of OEM tire/rim/TPMS for my 2009 G37x sedan. After a $400 bill for a new TPMS and tire when i ran over a wrench on I-95- the $700 i paid for the set was a bargain.
So, today I installed the "spare" wheels on all 4, expecting to have to make a trip to the dealer to have the new OEM wheels "synched" to the car. To my surprise, after putting the new shoes on- no warning light.
Figuring the system has to get a reading from the TPMS, I drove for about 15 min at varying speeds with no indications.
Could it be the second wheels I bought have the same frequency as the originals? No complaining, just trying to figure this out..

TPMS is fairly slow to react...maybe it needs more than 15 minutes?
Since they are OEM, maybe it will keep working fine. Most people have 3rd party wheels around here, so the TPMS needs to be reset when we change wheels.
You can reset the TPMS yourself without paying the dealer. There's a DIY on this site.

You were right. Took more than 15 min...
On the way to the dealer to fix a rattle on the back deck area, the TPMS light flashed then came on steady.
$29 to reset the system to the new wheels. Learned at the dealership that the system can be only set to 4 sensors at a time- so each time i change out, 29$, not bad.

Off topic from the original post, but did you find out where the rattle in the back deck was coming from? I also have a rattle there. I've had my kids try to pinpoint it from the back seat, but no luck so far. If I can fix it myself it will save me the 1 hour trip to the dealer.
