Oil Changes..

Anybody try pumping out their oil through the dipstick with a hand pump? Was thinking about getting one to make it easier to drain. Thoughts?

No offense but thats probably one of the dumbest things ive heard on this forum. That would take way too long, cause too much of a mess and an oil change is already easy to do as it is.

Why would it cause a mess? It has 2 hoses, the one that draincavan be routed to a container.

I don't think it would be worth it. You also wouldn't get as much of the oil out as just removing the drain plug.

haha not a completely terrible idea, but I agree why not just get an easier drain plug, maybe just cut off the underbody panel covering the drain if that's the main problem.

also, when u change oil you really need to change the filter at the same time anyway too and it's right there in the same place for convenience...

I'll look into that. I did a google search and saw where it worked for some Audis or Mercedes. But I guess it's better when the oil filter is located on the top. Ours is located on the bottom so I might as well drain out of the drain plug. I'll look into that valve for sure. I just wanted something that would be less messy and more hasslefree.

I have to change the oil in my boat through the dipstick. Trust me, it is not "less messy and more hassle free". Be glad you can just pull the drain plug.

when I had a E46 BMW, it's something popular among that crowd. Checkout Roadfly.com and do a search there.

The consensus there if I recall, is that it's useful for in between dealer oil changes. With BMW free maintenance, they don't change your oil till about 13-16k miles. Self-pay oil changes runs about $120. The guys there would siphon up the oil with this device and replace the oil that way.

Can't do it with newer BMWs now because there is no more dipsticks.
