Mobil 1 Extended Performance

I just got my first oil change done at the Infiniti dealer today, and I was taking to my service advisor about putting in Mobil 1 Extended Performance (15k) starting after my second oil change. He told me it was a bad idea because Infiniti suggests you change your oil at 3750 miles regardless of the type of oil you use. He also said that synthetics don't do as well in Japanese cars and is meant for European cars. I am pretty certain that he was just trying to get me to get my oil changes at Infiniti and not go elsewhere, but I just wanted to know if switching to Mobil 1 EP was a good idea. I have done it to various Toyota, Lexus, Honda, and Volvo vehicles and never had a problem.

I think your service advisor is smart but dumb at the same time. I also agree that using extended performance in our cars wouldn't be a good idea. Not because of warranty or suggested oil change intervals, but just because 15,000 miles is incredibly too long to go in my opinion for an oil change. While the oil may perform much better and not break down as quickly as conventional oil or regular synthetics, oil gets dirty and just needs to be changed. That's my opinion. I'm sure someone will argue.

Now, I don't agree with him about synethics don't perform well in Japanese cars. I've been running M1 Synthetic in each of the 3 Infinitis I've owned and have had no problems at all. While I've never had super high mileage on any of them to get a true test out of them, oil analysis tests I've done have proved they perform exceptionally well.

My routine is Mobil 1 5W30 Synthetic every 3750. While I could likely go longer (5,000 miles) I feel better at 3750. This is all just my preference and I'm sure some people will say it is a waste for me to change at 3750 with Synthetic and that's completely fine. I feel better knowing I'm running clean oil.

Same here except i go 4500 i think M1 can get me at least 750 more mi.per oil change and still be good.

5K miles with Motul 300V

Use Motul 300V 5w30 Power Racing Change every 5000 miles.

I haven't seen any UOAs for Mobil1 Extended Performance, so no clue how that oil would do in the G. If you wanted to use it, I would suggest getting regular UOAs done to see how it is holding up.

For the dirt, you would just change your filter at a shorter interval.

I have a 3.5HR, here's my last UOA with the M1 EP (oil and filter). I just sent in my latest sample, should be getting the results any day now.

Take note, some of these intervals include track day(s).

Also, tell your service advisor to read the manual carefully. You can stretch that interval out if the car is lightly driven.

I'm using royal purple. Probably switch to Mobil 1 at my next change, but I'll be going 7k miles on this synthetic to take me to an even 10k. Then I'll be changing it every 5k.

As you saw with that lab report... synthetics do well, even after 7k miles.

You're dealer is either not knowledgeable about oil or he's trying to male sure you return for oil changes. Synthetic oil is absolutely fine in our cars and they run beautifully on it.

In terms of length b/w changes, that's up for debate like BJ said. I go 10K b/w changes with Mobil1 full synthetic and zero problems.

My first oil change was at 1,800 miles (just what I have always done with new cars?) it was with Nissan ester and Nissan filter,. Changed it again somewhere in the 6k miles with Royal and Nissan filter. Going to M1 in the next few days at 10k (it's what I have always used untill I bit into the whole bs on ester oil) I have run high rev import 4 turbos to low rev big v8's. Anyway, what filters do you guys use, Nissan or aftermarket?

What does the typical blackstone oil inspect cost and require to get done?

Thinking I'll send out the 9k royal to then compare to the M1 even though it would never be apples to apples becouse of season changes (cold start-ups,) idle time in the winter vs. summer i.e. remote start use, oil and filter brand, normal engine wear advancement based simply on mileage and driving style from winter to spring etc.,etc.

Besides letting your oil go 10+k on syn and or letting it get dumb low, do modern engines have oil related failures anymore? I just don't hear of it...at all...unless you are in the race ind. and beat it like you don't have to pay for it! Sorry, more questions than help I guess.

side note... if you have to change oil stop or prevent valvetrain noise...sale that POS, the MFG. should not be building cars in my .02

This should shed some light on the filter question you have....
