First oil change

^^ theres a huge oil filter thread on how crappy oem nissan ones are, i use K&N because of easy of use (they are as good the purolatorONE's which i hear are the best out there) because of the welded nut on the top. PureONE, mobil 1, K&N are all the same filter with a different name, get K&N, i hate oil filter wrenchs are the nut makes life so easy
I have an oil filter wrench and have never needed to use it except if the vehicle wasnt warm enough, and the last and final time I ever had the dealer do an oil change on the wifes car.....broke an oil filter wrench, had to restort to the "stab it with a screwdriver" trick, it was on that tight
I buy PureOne filters only. Amazon usually has a decent price on the 2 packs so I stock up. Advance Auto has also been having decent prices when combined with one of their many coupon codes. I was able to get the price of a PureOne down to 3.00 or so.

Ive always tightened them by hand. Use one hand to get it snug, then grab with both hands and turn it an extra 3/4 to 1 turn.
Never had one loosen up, never had one not be able to come off. If you put some fresh motor oil on the filter gasket before installing the new filter, it helps with getting it tighter as the gasket wont grab as you are tightening the filter.
Someday it would be interesting to try using a torque wrench with either a K&N filter (with the nut on the end) or one of those slip-on cap-type filter wrenches, to determine just how much torque is necessary during that extra 2/3 of a turn. Once you can put a number on it you can repeat it, and also test to see if you can get close doing it by hand.

I agree with using Pure One & Mobil one EP oil filters. Both excellent.
Also, based on my oil analysis ( in A Toyotas & BMW) , most name brand 100% syn oils can do 10-12K for OCI's; after that the TAN (acid) levels start rising too fast.
And for new cars, change UR oil before 3750, say 2K-3K to get rid of the wear metals & Silicon (dirt from casting or sealants).

If you change your oil yourself... where do you do it? It was easy with a PU... I could fit under it and reach the oil filter and drain plug.
I ain't a fatty (200 lbs) but I can NOT fit under the G.
Do you use ramps? Or do you go somewhere with a lift? What?
I took my 04 G35 to the dealer. I think I want to change my own with the 11 G37 and use Pure one and Mobil 1 full synthetic. (Which I can get on the cheap at Costco!)

I use Mobil oil filter and clean 5000 mobil oil on my altima and was going to do the same on the G, but I would prefer to use Synthetic, since I change my own oil. I may have to try the K&N filter, cause the Mobil is a pain to get off, even by me doing the oil changes and tightening them myself.
If I go with synthetic, I am sticking with Mobil.
