Can someone confirm this for me?

Recently, I tried to turn the engine OFF with the lights ON and it didn't turn OFF, rather when doing this the dashboard lights turn OFF and turn ON again but the engine keeps running. Doing this also triggers the 'Key' light in the dashboard and might've triggered additional codes in SES.

Is this some kind of safety feature for not turning the lights OFF?

With lights OFF, the engine turns OFF normally.

Not sure if this feature was there before but I noticed this after getting a tune on Stock Style map, and I do see a warning if you attempt to drive the car with parking brake/hand brake ON.

You mean headlights? My 2008 lets me have the headlights on and turn off the engine.

Something is definintly not right. The car should turn off just fine with the headlights on.

I can shut my car off with the lights in the "ON" or "AUTO" position and it shuts down no problem.

For sure I didn't have this problem before but did the recent tune do something.

Am I some kind of test/diagnostic mode??

when my light switch is on auto position, I turn off the car and step out and close the door i set it to turn off right away with the car off.

when my light switch is in the on position and i turn off the car and step out and close the door and lock the car it takes a good minute and it will turn off by itself.

my 08 does not do this. It will turn off and then beep at you that the lights are "ON" not auto or off.

Sounds like a funky little glitch.

Headlights being on or off should definitely not affect your ability to turn off the engine. Take it in to your dealership and have them check it out.

Spoke to a local dealership about this, apparently its precautionary feature against battery drainage of the HID lights in case someone forgets to turn the headlights OFF and after turning the engine OFF.

I got this figured out as the dealership did mention it might be a precautionary measure against battery drain. This is linked with the settings under 'Comfort and Conv. Settings/Auto Headlights Off Delay' in the centre console. If it is set to '0', the vehicles engine does not turn off with the headlights ON, with any time set other than '0' then the vehicle does turn OFF.
