this should have everything you need to know
https://www.myg37.com/forums/general...il-thread.html

the majority use mobil 1 synthetic
i think you can use anything if you get oil changes every 3500 miles.

I think the factory fill is Nissan Ester oil. Most every oil nowadays is at least partially synthetic. Nissan Ester oil certainly is.

Everybody's got their own opinion on:

1. How best to break the car in from an oil perspective
2. The best oil to use
3. The proper oil change interval (OCI)

I have a 2010 G37 and have studied up on the issue. Here's what I have concluded:

The G37 is hard on oil. It shears a lot of 5W-30 oils out of grade (i.e. down to 5W20). As a result, I have chosen to go with 10W-30 which is a more stable and viscous formulation than most 5W-30 oils. But I live in Houston. If I lived up north, I'd use the best 0W-30 I could find.

To break in, I changed my oil at 500, 1500 and 3000 miles before getting on regular OCIs. If I had to do it again, I would throw in a change at 50. Some will think this wasteful and unnecessary, and call me "****." I don't care. I want to do the best thing for my engine, as this is a car I plan to keep 6-8 years at a minimum.

Search this site, BITOG and some of the 370Z sites for Used Oil Analysis (UOA) on the G37 engine. I think you'll find that Eneos 5W-30 and Pennzoil Platinum have some excellent UOAs. Some of the Mobil 1 products were not so great, at least for awhile. That may have changed recently, and certainly Mobil 1 0W-30 AFE is a good product. Nissan Ester oil has some scary UOAs. As a result, I would not touch it despite the recommendation in the owners manual to use it.

In my research and experience, equally as important as the oil you choose is: using a great oil filter, and the fuel you use. As for oil filters, I use Purolator PureOne 14612. I only use Top Tier gas, Shell VPower in particular.

As far as OCIs, the book recommends 3750 on Schedule 1. If you plan to exceed that, then just get a UOA on the oil you choose so you can have some evidence that the longer OCI did not hurt anything in case a warranty issue comes up.

Skilled - I just today bought a Purolator PL 14612 oil filter for $6.99 plus tax at Pep Boys. Auto Zone and O'Reily's don't carry it. Walmart has 5w-30 Pennzoil Platinum in the 5 quart container for $23.99. However, the Infiniti manual says that the G 37 requires 5 and 1/8 quarts when replacing the oil filter. An additional quart of Pennzoil Platinum at Walmart was $6.79 + tax. Side note: Some on this forum recommend using the Purolator PL 14610 oil filter. Pep Boys had both filters, so I did a side by side comparison. The PL 14610 was the same diameter as the PL 14612 - but was longer in length. If space limitations in the G's engine bay is a concern, the PL 14610 may be more difficult to install. Others here on this forum that have hands on experience with this filter can chime in with their advice.

What oil you choose should really depend on your driving style and how frequently you plan on getting oil changes.

If you stick to a strict 3 months every 3750 miles, then any conventional 5w30 would be fine.

If you drive hard and want more protection, then read up on the synthetics.

If you drive hard and want to follow schedule 2 and go 7500 miles or 6 months, then read up because there are only a handful of oils which have shown good results under that condition.

Take a day and read the oil threads. Unfortunately theres a lot of good information scattered between bad information. After a few threads, it should be obvious.

We should start a new survey and see what people use after they have had their car a while. I bet the number using Mobil1 would be much lower.
