30K service due. Have a few questions

I set up my appointment with the dealer next week to have my 30K mile service done. I was looking in the manual and for the premium maintanance schedule it lists several things including coolant flush, replacing the drive belts, change the cabin filter, flush transmission fluid, and change differential oil. I ask the service manager what all they do and he listed pretty much everything in there except the transmission flush and diff oil change. He said they weren't really necessary.

So I was just wondering if I should go ahead and have them done anyways or if I'd be fine without it. Also is there anything else I should have done, or don't need done. Do I really need the drive belts replaced? I want to get everything done that I need to but don't want to pay for stuff I don't. Even though I only have 30K miles I will have had the car 3 years next week so I figure most things are due for changing or replacing.

No way do you need to replace the drive belts at 30K unless there is a problem with them. In fact, the service manual for schedule 1 & 2 suggests Inspecting the drive belts for the first time at 60K, then every 15K miles after. Only replace if there is damage.

Most of the premium maintenance items are complete overkill designed to jack up the price of service. You can't go wrong sticking with the schedule 1 maintenance.

Coolant Flush is also not needed until 60K.

Cabin filter and intake air filters should be changed for this service 30K. The maintenance schedules recommend inspecting the diff oil at 30K -- I will probably change mine then (do the work myself) but that's completely up to you.

Ok I though some of those were not needed. I'll definatly pass on the drive belts then. Do you think I should go ahead and do the coolant flush, and tranny/diff oil since I have been tracking the car quite a bit?

What transmission do you have? My understanding was the 7AT was sealed and the fluid didn't need changing (or something like that.) Not sure about the 5AT. The 6MT oil would probably be good to do at the same time as the diff, especially if you track the car.

As for coolant, maybe someone else who knows more than I do will chime in?

I like to do my coolant once a year, right before summer time kicks in. you are at 3 years with same coolant. I'd say change it.

diff I used to do it at 60k. I think at 30-45k miles is a good time frame.

dont do belts unless you see cracking

your an 08 so I assuming you dont have 7at, so if you have 5at/6mt do the tranny at the same time you do the diff.

Ok thanks for the info. I think I will do the coolant and go ahead and do the tranny and diff too. I'll just have then check the belts and skip replacing unless they see cracking.

And yeah I have a 5AT.

I went to a dealer and this is the recommended service they gave me

Transmission fluid flush: 229.95
Engine Filter: 55.00
AC Filter: 86.00
Drive belts: 155.00
Coolant and Cap:130
Differential fluild: 60.00

My car is at 33k, I've already replace the engine air filter, changed the differential fluid. Is the AC filter the same as air cabin filter? I'm assuming at this point I can skip the drive belts, coolant and transmission right? My car is a 08 G37S

K I just stopped by a local oil change place. The main service guy drives a bad *** 370z so I figure he knows what's up. He quoted me 300 bucks for diff change and transmission flush all with high quality synthetic oil. That was with labor and everything too. Does that sound like a pretty fair deal? I'm pretty sure the dealer charges like 229 for the tranny alone.

Engine Filter: 55.00 - DIY, takes like 10 seconds for each side.
AC Filter: 86.00 - DIY, incabin air filter. 30-45 mins
Drive belts: 155.00 - who change drive belts at 30k?

Yes, AC filter is the same as cabin filter. Coolant can wait until at least 60K if not contaminated.

diff oil change is around 75.00 with labor for oem based oil. syn. should be around 100.00

300 for both, I believe is way over priced. 200.00 range should be a fair price.

my shop charges 40.00 for diff change with syn.

Just got them both changed out. They put synthetic in everything too. I'm glad I went ahead and got it done, the oil in both of them was pretty dirty and the magnet on the diff plug had a fairly good amount of shavings on it, but that was somewhat expected since it was the first change.

I might have been able to get it a little cheaper else where, but I've been to this shop before and they always do a really great job. Plus the two guys that run it drive nice Nissans. lol. I called my local dealer and they said $250 for transmission and another 100 for the diff with the oem base oil. So I'm pretty happy with what I got.

I definintly think it was time though. Driving back it felt smoother shifting, especially with the revs higher up.

I thought flushing the system can actually harm the engine in some cases. Am I misinformed?
