Antifreeze ?

Guys,

I'm over 80 miles from an Infiniti dealer and was wondering what type of antifreeze I must use and can it be bought at Napa, Autozone or O'riellys?

Thanks,
Ron

I used Peak. O'Reilly has the 50/50 on sale BOGO. 2 gallons of 50/50 is plenty to refill the system, no need to add any water if you want a 50% mix. There's an air relief plug in a coolant line near the TB on the driver's side. Take off the engine cover before removing it. It makes it easier to get to it. I didn't remove the cover and and dropped the plug. Couldn't recover it. They are on national backorder so you can't get another one.

BB,

Thanks for the reply. Should I release any pressure in the radiator before adding antifreeze?

Thanks,
Ron

Remove radiator cap to drain it from the drain **** below. Refer to the FSM for step by step instructions.

Oh, I see now. I have to drain the system completely before adding the Peak antifreeze. I only need to top up since my G37 is only five months old.

Sorry, I thought you meant flush and refill. You shouldn't need to refill it at all unless you have a leak somewhere.

No leak that I have seen but it was around 116 degrees this summer and some probably evaporated. Will the Peak 50/50 still work or will I have to stop by Infiniti for their blue stuff?

The Peak 50/50 will work. The cooling system is a closed system so it should still all be there but check anyway. I live in a warm climate. I flushed and filled mine at about 60K but found out it was still completely full and the flush was probably not really needed for at least 100K miles. If it's only a few ounces low, topping it off with distilled water will do just fine.

The antifreeze in my car was blue. I had not seen blue antifreeze. Is it something special or will prestone green stuff work ok, and is ok to mix?

Need your advice too.... My G37 has only 27,500 miles and the dealer is already suggesting I replace the antifreeze .. What's up with that..?
Car run fine and no overheating issues at all

I wonder if they simply "recommend" services based on a generic interval chart thAt They may have

As far as I understand, the blue coolant is the long life coolant. If it's mixed with the green stuff, it shouldn't hurt it, but it will reduce the duration that it can be used to the limitations of the green. The blue is the good stuff and you should probably stick with it if it's already in there.

Ask them to clearly explain what's wrong with the coolant in your car. It should easily last 60K miles if not 100K. I only changed mine at 60 because I installed silicone hoses.

There are people with modern cars with way over 100k that have never changed it. If something is actually wrong with it, ask them to tell you what's wrong with it and what caused it. It sounds to me like somebody wants your money for nothing.

I've changed mine twice already at 30k miles. It had some fine sediments in the drain, so it was a good thing that it was changed. Just a piece of mind running with clean antifreeze.
