Ok to go 4800 miles on an oil change?
I recently had my first 6 month oil change on my g37 and now I have 9000 kilometers on my car (5400 miles). I should change it in another 3000km (1800 miles) but I'm about to go on a road trip of about 3000 miles return. SO I will be about 1200 miles over the recommended change time.
I am using Nissan Ester oil. Should I change the oil before I leave? the 1200 miles will be mostly highway.
Thanks

If I were you, I would get that oil out of my car before my trip. And I would never put it back in.

ive also read that its kinda bad to put synthetic in your engine when its less than 10000 miles, so im kinda in this pickle too. if nissan ester oil is bad for the engine and its bad to run synthetic oil short after the break in period, what oil should i use? im at 3000 miles about to hit the first milestone.
interesting stuff...

Just look through the Blackstone thread in the engine forum. There are 4-5 UOA's of the Nissan Ester oil and all show it breaking down between 3800-4000 miles.
I wouldnt run more than 4000 miles on the Nissan Ester oil.
And jujubii, I put fully synthetic oil in my car around 7500 miles. I did 2 schedule 1 oil changes with the Nissan Ester Oil and then changed it to Redline.

Except that some cars are factory filled and broken-in with synthetic oils from 0 miles. So I wouldn't turn that into an axiom quite yet.

I would also. I ran Nissan ester for 5000 miles for the first few changes in my car. Switched because I wanted something a little better for the price, but you aren't going to cause any harm to your engine with it. Even the people at blackstone believe "oil is oil" and recommended running those kinds of intervals with that oil in my car. There was still plenty of additive left, I guess the biggest problem we saw was the viscosity shearing after 3000 miles or so.
That was enough to make me want to switch brands at the next change, but I didn't go running out to my car and drain the oil that minute. The car still ran fine on it until the next regularly scheduled change.
Especially considering you'll be running all highway miles on it. This one oil change is going to have close to zero impact on the life of your engine. It's what you do regularly that counts.
