AC question

I've searched this forum several different ways but have not found any posts addressing my issue.

I use the AC on Auto with recirculated air. It blows cold air most of the time. Sometimes, when I come to a stop at a light, the air it blows gets considerably warmer. If I turn the auto AC down to 60 when this happens, it simply blows more air. The air is still much warmer.

When I resume travel, the air gets colder again.

This doesn't happen at every traffic light. Just some of them.

Ideas as to cause and cure?

Check the electric fans. When you are moving, the fans aren't needed to pull air through the condenser, but when you're stopped, if the fans aren't spinning, there's nothing to pull air through the condenser and the A/C will not be able to maintain the set temperature.

I'm not saying this is your problem, but it will be the first thing any tech will check.

I have this same intermittent A/C issue too except it is accompanied with a significant momentary drop in RPMs. Once I pull up the red light, within 10 seconds I see (and feel) a quick drop in engine speed and that’s when the A/C cuts out for a bit.

I need to take the car into the dealer for this except the weather hasn’t been warm enough to duplicate reliably. Let us know if you get this resolved.

mmmm, no... I think what the OP and I are experiencing is a complete turn off of the compressor for a while (just as if you had pushed the A/C button off).

Interesting. I'll be on the lookout for the RPMs next time it happens.

Sometimes, when I need to stop quickly for a red light, I'll shift to neutral while braking, then stay in neutral while stopped until it's time to start driving again. I'll have to see if this weird little procedure of mine plays a role in the AC mystery.

Why in the world would you put your car in neutral why braking?

In my twisted mind, I feel: 1) the car stops quicker and 2) it might be a little easier on my brakes.

I could be wrong. And I don't do it often. Only when I need to stop quickly.

hmmm... Neutral actually increases your stopping distance because you don't have the assistance of engine braking.

With regard to the AC I would try to get it to duplicate for an Infiniti Technician.

It would be worse on your brakes (in terms of wear) to put it in neutral, since the engine is no longer helping slow the car.

It might, however, slightly increase gas mileage. It's one of the techniques used for hypermiling.
