Okay to Change Nissan Esther Oil Every 6 Months?

Hey all. I have the schedule two maintenance package from Infiniti which includes Nissan Esther Oil. Schedule two maintenance package allows me to come in every 6 months or every 7,500 miles whichever comes first.

I only drive 10k miles/year since I have a very short commute everyday to work. Would it be okay to change out my Nissan Esther Oil/filter in my car only every 6 months?

I searched the forum, and it seems like fully synthnic oil is okay to keep in that long. But I couldnt find a definite answer for the esther oil. I believe someone said it's okay to keep the oil in the engine for 6 months but you should change the filter every 3 months.

Thanks guys.

You will get opinions, both informed and uninformed, that will tell you differing answers.

Personally, I think you are fine just changing oil and filter every 6 months.

Next time you do an oil change you can always send a sample of the used oil to Blackstone Labs . For $20 or $30 they'll give you an informed opinion on whether you need to change it sooner or can extend it.

There's no reason to change the filter more often than the oil, IMO.

^^^Excellent advice. I did a UOA on a 7500 mile OCI with Eneos 5w30 and it gave me peace of mind that the oil could hold up that long in our engines. Scientific analysis > than some dude's opinion.

BMW does oil changes every 1 year or 15K miles, so every 6 months should be fine.

what one should worry is the oem nissan filter. there junk and pushing them to 6k miles is over doing it.

That is a great idea. Thanks for the heads up. I will do that and do a follow up post 6-7 months from now to let you guys know the result.

I put a little over 7k on my car this past year and I was on Nissan Ester oil. I did a UOA and it was consistent with the handful of other UOAs showing the Nissan Ester oil is shearing down to a 20 weight oil after 3-4k miles.

Do a UOA and see how yours is doing. Im also on schedule 2 so its completely fine to go 6 months between oil changes, but I would watch your mileage. I wouldnt do more than 4k miles between oil changes unless your UOA says otherwise.

Check the blackstone labs thread.

If you are doing 10k a year and 6 month changes, that would average out to 5k miles between changes, so I would definately do a UOA before continuing to do that. If you drive soft enough, you might be OK, but so far there are 4 UOAs showing the Ester oil breaking down between 3-4k miles.
