Went to buy Ester...came in Mobil1 box

Funny...I went to Nissan to buy Ester and they brought it to me in a Mobil1 box. So I figured M1 was good enough so I told the guy I forgot my wallet, went to Benny's and bought 5 quarts of M1 for $23.

I've used M1 on both of my G37s and haven't had any problems whatsoever.

Well just because they use Mobil one doesn't necessarily mean they use it on the VQ37VHR.

/devil's advocate.

while the issue HAS been debated fiercely on this and every other forum, IMO Mobil1 is the best oil you can use.

There are lots of good oils and lots of good engines...the problem
is finding the right combination. While I think Mobil 1 is "good"
oil, I'm pretty sure if you subscribe to Dysons data base and
study a few UOAs you would not only retract your
statement that "Mobil1 is the best oil you can use", but
you would probably never use it again in a VQ motor...
but you are entitled to your opinion.

Based on your comment, what would you suggest as a good oil to use as you can imagine with all the talk, what a confusing issue this can be for the regular Joe. Thanks for your help.

My opinions: I use Nissan, but only because they gave me a
free service plan. It was designed for these engines
and I am willing to bet the Nissan Oil will make the
most horsepower and get the best mileage of any
oil in this engine.....otherwise I would be using redline 5w30
puchased by internet order @ about $35/gallon You can
now get the Nissan Ester oil change kits...oil, filter, plug washer
for about $50 over the internet and do it yourself or find a
place that will use what you bring ....and cut the cost
by about half of what most Infiniti dealers charge.

Best UOA I've seen from a VQ37 using a widely available Major Label
oil was GC (German Castrol). It's about $8/quart
at many auto parts chains. I apprears to be a good match with
the VQ37 motor.

Motul is GREAT oil, from France, and not cheap, but I have
not seen one UOA from a Motul user. $9-15/quart depending
on street or race blend.

Have seen several UOAs for PP (Pennzoil Platinum) with
noticeably lower wear metals than M1...$26/5quarts at
Walmart. If you use schedule 1 (3750/or every 3 months)
this would be a good economical oil of choice.

The new Penzoill Ultra looks good on paper because
of the high ester content and it's ability to lubricate
and hold-up under high heat. It's very reasonably
priced for a nearly top of the line "botique oil". I have
not seen any UOAs for it yet, but I would not
hesitate to put it in my car. It's available at
many, but not all Walmarts and is slightly more
expensive than their Platinum oil.

.....again, these are my opinions, but I hope it helps.

The shipping is killer though. Best I was able to find came to about $80, shipping included, for 6 quarts. I got one extra since it takes 5 and 1/8. From a nissan site called courtesyparts.

I had my oil changed today at WalMart and asked them to used this new Pennzoil Ultra 5W-30. It was $28 for 5 quarts on the shelf, more than their other oil. They said they would use that oil for the same price - $55 for a synthetic oil change. I of course followed them out there to make darn sure they put the Ultra in, and not some other crap...

They did need 5.2 quarts so they had to charge me $6-something for an additional quart. This was my third change at 10,000 miles - had standard oil in there previously.

But hey! For that price they vaccuum the car, check the tires, check battery, and top off the wiper fluid (with water...).

We'll see how it goes.

next time you go.. take your own oil fliter, Walmart uses fram oil filters. Fram filters are cheaply made.

humm... I might have to try that new Penzoil Ultra.
