Non OEM Versus OEM filters

Non OEM Versus OEM filters
OK guys,
I am thinking about using a wix filter for my G and 5000 mile OCIs with Nissan Ester oil.
How many of you guys are using non oem filters and if so, what brand are you using?
I am not convinced yet of the quality of the OEM Infiniti filter.
Have any of you with service work and non OEM filters been given flack by the dealers?

Before i got my intakes I had HKS drop in filters and they worked fine. I don't really know of any other brand that has some for the G other than K&N and they are oiled. If a dealer is giving you problems about a drop in air filter then it's time you find a new dealer.

I switched to PureOne filters several years ago after being convinced by several
motorcycle enthusiasts who owned and worked on several different makes and
models. Did some internet research on the "calsi" site and some forums and
made the switch on both my bikes and all 3 cars. Local Nissan dealer will
allow me bring it in when I get an oil change there. The Infiniti dealer will
not allow me to bring my own parts or oil.....but told me using the PureOne
will not affect my warranty (which I already knew) The Mobil 1 and Bosch
are very good and alot of "Nissan guys" like the Wix and Napa Golds.
I say cut a few apart and then make up your mind rather than taking
anyone's word for it.
Concerning Oil. Now using the Nissan Ester in my G37, but plan to switch
to Redline 5w30 at 5K with 6 month change intervals regardless of miles.
The VQ37 seems to "like" and "want" ester and $12/quart for Nissan
conventional versus $9/quart for the Redline ester snythetic delivered
to my door make it a pretty easy decision for me. Good luck

Personally I have been using Mobil 1 filters with NO problems at all. I would stick with Mobil 1, Wix/Napa Gold, or PureOne.....just my opinion.

Actually the OEM Nissan filter is more like a FRAM. It has cardboard end caps and flimsy filter media.....far from a PureOne. Here's a link that proves what I just said: https://www.myg37.com/forums/engine-...otsa-pics.html

This is my experience;
I once had a Toyota solara 6 cyl.
The oil filter was mounted on a slant downward into the engine.
I used Mobil1 filters from the start and after some time, noticed 2 things:
1) When the car was started in below freezing temps, there was a detectable second or so where it sounded like there was no oil lubricating the engine.
2) If I let the car sit overnight and changed the oil/filter the next morning, there was no oil in the filter. This was observed several times. (Anti drain back valve)
I had believed that the synthetic media along with the high cost of the filter meant that this was a better filter than the OEM Toyota filter.
I then bought a OEM filter for the car and noticed that the cold starts issue as well as the filter being empty if sitting overnight was gone.
My experience maintaining my Toyota and previous foreign cars (Honda, Mitsubishi)taught me that there is nothing better than OEM parts (especially including brake pads and air filters).
I know that the oil filter on the G37 is mounted horizontally, so the anti drain back valve problem isn't an issue, and you would probably be fine with an aftermarket oil filter. I'll sleep better with OEM parts.
