Oil change at 3000 miles or 3750 miles?
I'm new to this forum and I recently purchased an '09 G37X Sedan. I'm used to getting a oil change every 3000 miles, but I read somewhere that I should get it every 3750. Does anyone know the answer to this?

The main reason for oil changes is actually water in the oil. Ever notice the water dripping out of the tail pipe? Some of that ends up in the oil. When porche added a second filter (basically a tube of toilet paper) to soak up the water, there interval went to 10k miles. So consider your weather when deciding your interval. Also remember, the manufactures don't pay for oil, so they are probably real conservative.

ya oil changes are for clearing out particles from normal engine wear as well as replacing the oil as the chemical changes it in start wearing out not for water. some water in oil is normal but higher levels are due to different problems.

The manual also recommends a change every 3-6 months, regardless of mileage. Any thoughts on this? I mean, can oil really degrade that badly after only 3 months of limited driving? At 7 months, I had 2000km (1200 mi) on my car (I'm very close to work), and I took it in anyway. Filled her up with Mobil 1. It's fully synthetic right, so it shouldn't degrade if it's just sitting there right? I mean, shouldn't the oil break down in proportion to how much you drive?

personally i would not let oil sit longer than 3 months in your g no matter how many miles you've put on it. ive put over 12k miles in 7 months so thats not really an issue for me.

Actually, water coming out of the tailpipe is created by the catalytic converter/s. Though, oil does get moisture in it. I wouldn't say water per se!
