The DEFINITIVE oil thread
#91
I'm surprised this is the first mention of a Fumoto valve on the forum. Typically, I wouldn't recommend one, as there's always a risk it could be opened, but since the G has an underbody panel that protects it, I wholeheartedly recommend one Not only does it make oil changes quick, you don't have to worry about spillage, burning yourself, and stripping threads

That was my exact thought process on installing one on my G. There's a debris guard panel there that covers it and my oil filter, so why not? DEFINITELY more convenient and a cleaner oil change. I would definitely not recommend them for oil drain pans that are exposed on the underside of a car......seems like a potential disaster in the making. So far, so good.

So if you have a maintenance plan all you have to do is claim you have the knocking and they'll use the Nissan Ester covered under the plan.
#95
Not sure, I don't have the maintenance plan. Interesting they just use plain cheapo oil as their normal stuff though.... Has anybody else had their Infiniti dealer service tell them this?

Every dealership uses conventional "dino" oil for standard oil changes (unless your dealer also carries a synthetic like Mobil 1 which is an upgrade option price). Many here seem to be confused about the use of the Ester oil. Infiniti recommends the Ester oil for those that have the VVEL "tick" which sounds more like a small Apache helicopter in your engine bay. That is part of their "fix" for the problem. You can use any approved oil that you like. My service adviser never tries to sell me Ester oil, and he even offers for me to bring my own oil in for service. I've turned into a DIY'er, so I just change it out myself.

Quick question for Mobil 1 users. What interval do you change your oil when running Mobil 1 Synthetic? I've looked for UOA on the G37 running this oil and have not found any. I'm thinking of running anywhere from 5,000 to 7,500 mile intervals in between oil changes. Opinions?

Hi guys I have a few questions,
Aparently to keep the warranty the latest you can change your oil is 7,500 intervals but I have heard in this thread that u need proof/receipts proving thAt You have changed the oil if I ever have engine problems.. This brings me to the next question; I have a nice hook up at my friends Volkswagen dealer...$40 including mobil 1 syn..but they never give me receipts... Will this be a problem? Reference warranty issues??
Which type of mobil oil blend is recommend? 5-30?
Everytime u change the oil u need to purchase a new infinity drain plug washer?
Thanks in advance for all your help!

Quick question for you oil guys. At my 11,250 change i switched to mobil 1 synthetic. The dealer said i should be able to go longer between changes, but I'm only at 15,500 now and I checked the oil the other day and its already starting to look darker in color. I've been to the track a few times though so can that cause it to wear faster? I just requested a test kit from blackstone labs to send a sample in to see how it has been holding up.

Because the answers are in that little book in your glove box called the "Owner's Manual".
But, I'll answer your questions:
1. If you don't have receipts for your maintenance, and you have an oil related failure....kiss your engine warranty goodbye. That's $8500 plus a crapload of labor costs.
2. Yes 5w30 is the recommended viscosity for our cars (in the owners manual). Using anything other than this is not recommended by Infiniti.
3. Yes, you are supposed to replace the drain plug washer with every oil change. (again, this is in the manual, and stated MANY times in the maintenance thread).
And, the reason I said "let the flaming begin", is because you own an Infiniti, not an "infinity".
