The DEFINITIVE oil thread

In regards to your plug washer. I personally use those things over and over and
over...as long as they look "OK" and are not over torqued, and there is no
appearant damage, they should be reuseable, but I can understand that
some folks just want to play it safe and replace them everytime.

Nissan Ester Oil
I'm sure this has been discussed but I could not find it searching. Where is the cheapest (reputable) place to buy Nissan Ester oil on-line. I'm assuming I can get it cheaper that way than at the dealer.
Thanks
Jim

I have an '09 and am going to change the oil to Mobil 1......have always used Mobi 1 with great results. It gets hot in Arizona where I live. Rremember the old commercial showing oil in a frying pan @ 450'....the Mobil 1 didn't burn up and still flowed excellent!..It has been recommended in Corvettes and other sports cars for years...

Nissan Ester Oil 5W30. Specifically designed for the new 3.7 liter VQ engines.
The first time I bought it (I didn't find that link above until after I bought it and somebody posted it here), I bought from another place which had a slightly higher price. I initially needed 6 quarts (you need 5 and 1/8 so the extra quart should last for a few changes) and the copper crush washers -- you might want to check for that as well.
I've found some other sites want close to $20 minimum for shipping which really makes it not worth it. So factor that in when you do your comparisons. The link above says you can get free shipping, but that's for a $75 minimum.

Great UOA with Redline on a 370Z. For the price of the Nissan Ester you can get Redline Syn.

Thank you sir! Im approaching 7500 miles so if no one else had one, I was going to do a VOA on the Ester. I always like a good baseline to start with and for comparison.
You should also throw that up on BITOG!
Edit: I see that you did!
I posted over on BITOG to see what they think and how they think specwise it compares to the other higher end oils on the market. For the cost of the Ester oil, you can pretty much fill your car with numerous other options, so instead of asking peoples general opinion, its nice to have a scientific backing of the properties of different oils to best choose what combats the issues with the VQ37 engine.

Looks like something Ive read before when googling to learn about Nissan Ester Oil.
Lubricating oil composition containing two molybdenum additives - US Patent 6074993 Description
I dont know who this patent is, or if they work for a company, but the concept might apply.

Thanks a bunch, JonnyOzero!
For anyone curious about the factory oil:
This is a UOA I had done on my factory oil when I did the first oil change. I assumed it was Nissan Ester oil. Looking at the Nissan Ester VOA above, this seems pretty consistent with that. Or at least in my uninformed, uneducated opinion it does.
