Programming TPMS yourself

I am changing over to Volks shortly, on the front wheel hub there was small metal bracket on each side. Is this part of the tpms system? Do I still need them on for my tpms to work with my new volks that have the oem sensors already installed? Thanks.

I have two sets of factory rims and both sets have TPMS. How many sets of wheels would the car be able to retain? Just one set or the car can handle more? Does anyone know?

I swapped my tire sensors from my old stock (08 G35 Journey Sedan) to my new g37 sport wheels. I asked the dealership if they had to resync, and they said no - it should do it automatically. There was no light indicating that it wasn't working. I was thinking I was going to pay, but I guess not!

I think the AutoEnginuity with Nissan/Infiniti enhancement should be able to set the TPMS, but it is $350 for both.
Looking into picking this up myself but need to make sure that it is updated for 09 models.

Or you could just save your money and not go through all of the hassle and just drive the car and ignore the (!) light... but for those of you guys that get it done free are lucky, unlike some of us that get ripped off at the STEALERship!

Guys guys guys....if you're retaining the same sensors and putting them on your aftermarket wheels, there is no reprogramming necessary. Just take the car for a drive and after a few miles it will resync will all 4 sensors and the light will go off. Make sure all tires have at least 32psi (I think this is the min before it sets the light off) or more, and you should be good to go.
Also, the car only retains 1 set at a time, which is why if you swap them from OEM wheels to aftermarket wheels, there is no reprogramming involved - I guess some dealers out there are taking advantage of the naive and charging for not doing anything.
By the way, even when I actually changed sensors (twice in the past), my dealer reprogrammed them for free. It takes them 5 minutes!

Here is a great write up on how to test and re-sync your TPMS. Loom about midway down the page for a post by "Mustang5L5"
tpms re-learning pressure sensor ID with no special tools - Page 2 - G35Driver
I didn't bother with the tool he mentions. I just used a regular old indoor single-pole light switch (99 cents) with a wire coming off one side of the switch grounded to the firewall and a wire coming off the other side jammed into the TPMS connector under the dash. Worked like a charm!
