battery out possibly?

Hey guys, I had my car 4 just over a year (bought a brand new in November 2007).

My insurance expired this month so I left my car in garage for about a week. I renewed insurance and thought I would go out for a driving.

When I got to my baby, I could not open the car door because my remote buttons didn't do anything. So I physically opened the door using the key, not remote. At this point I thought my fob battery died out.

So I hopped in the car and put the fob in the key slot and tried to push-start, well there was no sign of anything, literally dead. It didn't react to any buttons. I couldn't even turn on the radio. So I figure it must be the car battery dead.

Then I brought in another car for a jump, hooked up the cable, and then re-tried. This time I could go to ready-mode and listen to musics and things. But the car wouldn't start. It tries to start and make a starting noise for a bit and stops.

After trying for about 10-20 minutes, I looked at the distilled water level. Well it seemed low but wasn't completely empty. I mean even if it's low shouldn't the car at least start?

The other car had 12V battery. At this point, i am hoping its just the battery. Perhaps the other car's 12V battery isn't enough to boost up my car?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

unless u didnt jump it right, the car should be able to start hooked up to another car if it's the battery at fault, if not then u might have bigger problems

but hooray for another stupid infiniti battery join the club.

time for a new battery!! but yea, if u have it hooked to another car, it should still start regardless if ur battery if dead or not...if it starts, then u unplugged the other car's battery, and ur car still dies, then u might wanna get ur alternator looked at....a good alternator should keep ur car running even without a battery...batteries are only used for starting the vehicle...besides that, it's useless (unless u have a huge sound system)

the quality or connection bite of the jumper cables can make a difference...good enough for radio systems (~6 Amps), but not enough or high resistance (Voltage drop increase as Amps increase) for the ~200 Amps needed for the starter motor under load and keeping Voltage up >11Vdc (~2000Watt surge for a moment). (I did some measurements today...will be adding to previous thread on batterys...62Amp-hr, 20 hr rated (~3A/hr--too low) supposedly).

Well, I spoke to the dealers just now. They think it's definitely a battery issue and he also mentioned there are quite few number of people complaining about stock battery these days. He tells me it should be covered by the warranty (if the battery is not completely dead), but towing charges won't be covered. It's $110 to get my car towed to them.... that's like cost of brand new battery!

I also read the manual yesterday. It seems there is a indicator as to how much distilled water left in the battery. Could the above symptoms present with the water level being low?

Easy... just take the battery to kragen or autozone or somewhere and get it tested

But I know for some other cars (don't know about this one) there's sort of a safety with jumping from other cars. If the amperage going from the power source to the starter isn't strong enough, the car just won't crank over. It's like a safety to keep the starter from getting messed up. With some other cars, you'd have to leave the jumper cables attached for like 5 minutes to sortof re-charge your dead battery a bit before actually trying to crank it.

But yeah... just take the battery out, and get it tested -- you'll get your definite answer then
