Oil Change Intervals

Quick question for you guys. The G is not my daily driver, I have a civic for that (super long commute to work). I normally just use the G 1-2 days out of the week, mainly weekends. Because of this, it takes a pretty long time to get to the 3k miles for an oil change (not synthetic yet). Since the car sits days at a time before being driven, is it recommended to change the oil more often? less often? I'm at 11.5 months and sitting at 9.5k miles. My oil change was supposed to be scheduled for early November/12k miles. Any thoughts?

I've had 3 cars with well over 200K on them with no issues whatsoever, but I'm not an expert, a professional mechanic, nor an automotive or chemical engineer. They'll all chime in later.

If it were my car and only getting about 10K miles a year, I'd change oil/filter only every six months with conventional oil. Most people's opinions will differ. If you're only driving 10K miles per year, if/when you decide to change to synthetic, I'd change oil once a year and filter every 6 months. Just my .02.

I agree with BB. My husband's car gets about 1000 miles a year and he changes his oil (mobile 1 synthetic) every 6 months bc oil still goes bad when it sits just not at fast.

Thanks for the replies. I guess this answers my underlying question, which was does oil go bad faster if it just stands there for long periods of time. I did get 2 years of maintenance for free with my car so it seems like im wasting that opportunity haha.

Well that's different. If you're not paying for it, take it in every 3750 miles or 3 months and let them do their thing for 2 years.

+1 for everyone. from what ive read, its usually recommended every 6 months. as long as you're driving it regularly (every week) that should be ok. otherwise maybe bump it up to every 4 months with such little mileage. 1 extra oil change isnt going to kill you especially if its protecting your motor.
