Switch off in D Mode?
Something weird happened to me yesterday.. I parked my car while I was on the phone (yeah shoot me for that lol.. unlike shumby I can multi-task! ).. car was still on D my foot was on the brake pedal and I'm still on the phone with mr. big mouth.. I decide to get out of the car and forget to shift to P.. and hit the push button.. car jerks forward and switches off.. beeper goes off to tell me that shifter isnt in D but yeah well thanks for doing so! Shouldn't the car not switch off unless in P?
When I used to drive an MT beater back home (not the best hand brake on that) and I used to engage the first gear and switch off the car on steep slopes.. could that be the case with our G's ?

I don't think there is any thing wrong with shutting off in drive that could damage the car. You just obviously don't want it to go rolling away without being in park, but as to just shut it down, the push button is just like turning the key, it will do what you want even if it's not in your best interest. I'm pretty sure you can turn off the engine while moving, but I wouldn't try it, nor do I think it would allow you to restart until you were in PARK.
