Time for my 2nd oil change at 5500 miles?

I got my first oil change at around 3100 miles - thats when the light came on.

Today I am driving and my oil light came on again! its shows 5500 miles on the clock.....

is this normal?

I do push the car every now and then....it is a g37.....but at the same time I do all street driving. Taking side streets to work, gym, peoples houses etc etc. Use the freeway for short trips and yes a lot of stop and go traffic.

But I do think the oil change light coming on at 5500 miles is odd

any thoughts on this?

+1... Are you referring to the low oil indicator or just the reminder?

IF 'Low Oil Indicator' I'd recommend you notifiy the dealer that you believe you are experiencing oil consumption problems and ensure oil level is correct. After that, monitor you oil levels weekly for 3750 and report your findings back to dealer.

IF 'Oil Change Reminder' then you're intervals aren't set right. Just reset them within the maintanance screens.

Hope that helps.

There are reminders that you or the dealership set. That may be what he is talking about. My dealership set mine at every 3500 miles. I dont think the car it TELLING you it needs changed, its just a reminder that someone set.

That's just a maintenance reminder. Looks like you need to set the intervals... normally every 3750. Look it up in your manual and it will show you how.

You're all good though. No problem with the car, the dealer just didn't set the intervals right.

Yea I just got this light to and have 1500 miles on my car. It is the sevrice engine soon light. My dealers service department is closed till monday and I am worried. I tried tightning the fuel cap and letting it sit for a while but at start up it comes on and stays on. It just started today. I hope my car is ok. Anybody have any idea what this could be. Could it be triggered by the extreme heat of 100+ degrees outside? Thanks

Curious about this. I got the Deluxe Maintenance program with my car and it only covers changes at 7k miles. After doing research on edmunds, it appears 7k is the "factory spec" for oil changes. Why is everyone getting oil changes so early?

Also, does the manual tell you how to turn the reminder off? I reset the intervals, but still get the reminders.... ARGH!

I received a "service engine soon" light this morning, I called the dealership and they asked me to check my fuel cap. I did and it was loose, tighten it up and the light went away about 15 mins later.

Yeah, not big on manuals. Like to learn on the fly.

Sort of sad that the nav and dashboard have too completely different systems and they both need to be reset seperately.
