Hyper's GTR Build Page (56k LEAVE!!!!!)

To catch everyone up to speed on the objective and parts going in to this project:

This car is being setup for autocross and track duty. With that in mind we set out to get a powerful reliable 550 to 600 whp out of the car. Most important for our purposes was to upgrade the cooling systems in the car to handle the rigors of heavy track use. When the dust settle we had made several decisions and started gathering parts. Some were local, some came from Japan, some we are still waiting on.

Engine:

Garrett GT2860R turbos
Custom fabricated and welded hard pipes
Custom Fabricated and welded intercooler pipes
Custom intercooler w/ custom end tanks
Custom fabricated downpipe w/ wastegate dumps
Custom fabricated and welded top mount turbo manifolds
Custom fabricated and welded exhaust
Greddy Filters
NGK Plugs
Tial 50mm BOV
Tomei Cams

Fuel:

Apexi Fuel Pump (276 LPH)
Nismo Fuel Pressure Regulator
Steel Braided lines w/ AN fittings
Upgraded Fuel Return system
770cc Injectors
HKS Fuel Rail

Electronics:

Power FC (D-Jetro) w/ MAP sensors & Commander
HKS ETC torque controller
Greddy Profec B boost controller
J&S Safegaurd Knock Sensor
AEM Wideband

Drivetrain:

Carbon fiber rear driveshaft
Cusco 1.5 way Front diff.
ATS Twin Plate clutch
Nismo Slave Cylinder

Cooling:

Koyo radiator
Nismo Thermostat
Electric Fan kit
Greddy oil cooler w/ filter relocate

Interior:

Bride Custom leather Seats (black leather w/ red stitching)
1996+ GTR OEM steering wheel (w/ red stitching)
Takata 4 point harnesses
Nismo Gauges

I haven't chosen wheels yet and there was already a Tein suspension kit on the car when I bought it. All we are doing to them is replacing the upper pillow mounts. The paint is still good but we are respraying the front bumper and replacing the headlight bulbs. I am sure I am missing some stuff in there but without further adue, here are a few preliminary pics leading up to the build taking place over the next few weeks and I will update this thread as I get more pics.

Enjoy!!!!

Last but not least....one of the techs using my IC piping to make himself feel better.

A few comment nothing personal but some thoughs on the setup:

Engine:
Garrett GT2860R turbos
External wastgates owns you. I'm pretty sure you'll be boost leaking/spiking like crazy. Shoulda went external with Tial

Custom fabricated and welded hard pipes
Custom fabricated and welded intercooler pipes
Looks like 3" soooo

Custom fabricated downpipe w/ wastegate dumps
Again external wastgates owns you but I don't know why Matchless has not told you this yet

Custom fabricated and welded top mount turbo manifolds
Why go top mount if it's not a single or at least non wastegated turbos. You'll have more room up top for a nicer or bigger downpipe

Custom fabricated and welded exhaust
Better be at least 4"

Greddy Filters
Blitz SUS Air filter owns you

NGK Plugs
Tial 50mm BOV
Tomei Cams
All good

Fuel:

Apexi Fuel Pump (276 LPH)
Make sure it's high pressure and not low pressure

Nismo Fuel Pressure Regulator
I woulda gone with Aeromotive. Leading industry FPR

Steel Braided lines w/ AN fittings
Upgraded Fuel Return system
All good

770cc Injectors
Ummmmm. I think with 550 AWHP you'll be at 85-90% duty cycle on these. Get Larger ones and turn them down at least 880cc-1000cc

HKS Fuel Rail
Good

Electronics:

Power FC (D-Jetro) w/ MAP sensors & Commander
HKS ETC torque controller
Greddy Profec B boost controller
J&S Safegaurd Knock Sensor
Good

AEM Wideband
Doesn't the Power FC have a wideband feature?

Drivetrain:

Carbon fiber rear driveshaft
Cusco 1.5 way Front diff.
ATS Twin Plate clutch
Nismo Slave Cylinder
All good

Cooling:

Koyo radiator
Nismo Thermostat
Electric Fan kit
Greddy oil cooler w/ filter relocate
Make sure your fan is running all the time when the car is on.

Interior:

Bride Custom leather Seats (black leather w/ red stitching)
1996+ GTR OEM steering wheel (w/ red stitching)
Takata 4 point harnesses
Nismo Gauges
(Schweet!)

Again, this is my take on your setup. They are very familar with boost and the necessary requirements needed. Just throw them my questions for fun and see what they say.

Can't wait too see this done!

The turbos come with internal gates or I would have done an external set up. If it REALLY becomes a problem I can remove them, weld them shut and go external. But for simplicity at 16 to 18 psi they will get the job done. The motor can push over 22 psi stock so there is a LITTLE room for spiking. But everything is going to be conservative right now since it is the initial build. After this gets done we might look at better, more aggressive solutions. Also, another option I have would be to get a set of HKS actuators. The top mount manifolds were to give us easier options on a custom downpipe. i.e. Huge bellmouth for the wastegate dump, divorced wastegate dump, bigger diameter piping. These manifolds are going to be sick though. You can get the boost controller attatchment for the Power FC and I think it MAY (might be the Pro model) have a wideband, but getting a specific wideband monitor will make me feel better about seeing 12.5:1 I have 770cc injectors I can use or not use whichever. My options if I have to go bigger are to bore out the 770's or sell them and grab 880's (which I will most likely do)

Is that 4" pipiing for downpipes for hard pipes. That is gonna be freaking huge for hard pipes. Motor looks nekkid. Also what happened to your tranny?

My 3rd and 4th gear synchros were going out on my original tranny so I am going to tear it down and rebuild it. This tranny was part of a package deal I worked out with a guy on FreshAlloy.com and got it for pretty cheap. Nice thing is that it works flawlessly and has half the miles that mine has on it. Plus if you break 3rd gear (as GTR transmissions tend to do) I'll have a spare to drop in. I am all about grabbing quality spare GTR parts when they are available since you never know if you'll be able to find one later down the road.

That piece of 4" aluminum piping is for the Intercooler piping from the outlet of the IC to the 4" Greddy intake manifold to match diameters and not have ot use a reducer.

My apologies for not keeping the thread up. Been busy with work, sleep, eating, you know the important things in life. A decision was made to low mount the turbos in the stock location, the manifolds are being jet coated as we speak. We got a late start on ordering the radiator so it won't arrive until the seats do at the end of this month. The oil cooler is in, the catch can is in, the injectors are in, the clutch is in. We are going to do the pull to push comversion on the clutch this week (cross your fingers on this one). I'll grab some pics and put them up today.

Update:

Not much to marvel at today, but the IC and BOVs come off in place of the 50mm Tial BOV. (note: the end tank pictured will not be the size of the outlet when the build is complete).
