Engine Swap

Hey guys, I’m looking at swapping an engine into my 2009 g37X sedan because the galley gasket went bad on the old one and spun a bearing. I was looking at a couple Q50 3.7 engines 2014 and up since I heard that those come with the updated gasket. Does anyone know if these would be a direct fit? If not what parts would I need out of the Q50 to make it work? Or am I better off sticking with a G37 motor? Thanks to everyone in advance for all your help

The Q50 3.7 is a direct swap in for your 09 g37. if you get a rwd engine, just swap the upper and lower oil pan from your 09 engine to the 2014 engine. you will need to reuse your ac compressor also.

the 2014+ engine did get the updated gallery gaskets but they reused the same hardware and can come loose and cause low oil pressure also. its not a guarantee.

Agree with @projectpanda13

It's a direct fit externally.

You do want to use the G37 engine harness, AF and O2 sensors (Primary and Secondary O2) sensors.
Also some of the Q engines dont carry an actual MAP sensor (top of the manifold) it's just a dummy sensor, if yours has this you'll need to swap the G37 in or you'll have a MAP code.

Thanks! Do you guys think I would be better off just swapping a new engine in, or would I be better off seeing if it could be rebuilt (if that’s even possible)

Drop a whole new engine in there and call it a day.

If your '09 engine spun a bearing then there is no telling how badly damaged the crankshaft journals are (either way the crank is likely toast), the bearing caps, bearing supports, etc. Not to mention any other issues within the block as a result of the debris, high temperature, and so on.

This is all on top of the other incidental parts that will require replacement like the timing assemblies (chains, guides, maybe sprockets), water pump, VTC units, (while you're in there) and so on. Plus, the VVEL adds another layer of complexity as everything has to be aligned and set correctly.

Too many unknowns and cost ineffective to rebuild. Get a low mileage junkyard donor, drop it in, and drive away. Just my 10¢.
