09 g37 overheating inconsistently

So about three weeks ago my 09 g37 has been overheating off and on. Sometimes it'll get especially hot, sometimes it'll run cool no problem. I thought maybe it was the thermostat so i replaced that yesterday. I let it run for something like 45 mins idling, and no signs of over heating,no coolant leaks under my vehicle that i could see either. I went out and came back and sitting in my drive way it was running hot. I let it cool off for about an hour-hour and a half while i did errands at home and went to a friends house, and the temp didn't go above the halfway point when i went there or when i got back home, any suggestions?

Edit: the fans turn on. Theres coolant in the resovoir and again i havent noticed any leaks.

Did you bleed the cooling system after replacing the thermostat?

I agree with the question about bleeding. When the car is cool, remove the cap on the radiator. Park the car on an incline, nose uphill, and let it idle with heat and fan on for 15-30 minutes. This will open the thermostat and let coolant flow through the system, potentially letting any trapped air come out via the radiator. Let the car cool down and refill the overflow and radiator to the proper levels.

Otherwise, if you replaced the thermostat and it's still running hot, has the coolant been changed properly every three ish years? If not, your radiator may have blocked passages.

Good luck!

edit 2: Ive since been informed by my mechanic that it is leaking from approximately where the water pump is located, does anyone know of a step by step comprehensive guide to replace my eater pump?

You will find the detailed instructions in the Factory Service Manual (FSM). Water pump replacement will be in the Cooling section (CO) page 20. The FSM can be located at Infiniti Service Manuals - NICOclub.

Keep us updated!

So i tried doing it my self. And ended up getting overwhelmed and had my mechanic do it. He replaced the water pump and the timing chain guides today. (also apparently one of the previous owners appears to have had replaced the engine with a 2013 m37 engine) and i think we replaced the oil level sensor (though that ought to be irrelevant to what i have to say next) on the way home i noticed it was running warm but not above 1 knock above the half way point on the temp gauge. I got home and let my car idle and it went up to the 2nd/3rd notch below the top line, so i'd say it's safe to say that it was running hot. (duh) out of curiosity i decided to apply throttle around 2k ish rpm and the temp went down and i noticed by the upper radiator hose even though it's on pretty tight it's got a little coolant leaking out and bubbling.
(i'll post pics/ vids as a response to this comment)

Any ideas why it would run hot while sitting but appear to cool down as it apply throttle?
