Additives - Fuel or engine
hey all, now that our cars are getting up in years and especially mileage for many, just curious if any are using additives ? im at 140k and wondering about some fuel additives... i usually use top tier shell or Costco but sometimes have to use the nearest station, so over the years im sure its a mix up.... i think lucas sounds like a good possibility and tried it once right before i did my plugs at 105k but didn't continue after...

I used a Liqui Moly product before I replaced my Fuel Damper on my G37 and it worked well. You can't go wrong with SeaFoam either, just read the labels on both products to ensure you're getting the most out of it.

I use redline fuel injector cleaner about 1x10,000 miles. When I've sent injectors off to be cleaned (other vehicles I've owned) the spray patterns are moreconsistent, telling me it's keeping them at least a little cleaner.
Bear in mind that 2 of my 4 last cars also got TCW-3 2-stroke oil in the tank, because rotary.

I've used gasoline additives from Berryman, Lucas and Chevron (Techtron) on and off for years. I question their value for cleaning the valve train on direct injected cars like my wife's Honda Pilot, but our Gs are port injected so there should be some benefit for the valves and injectors. I was also told on several ocassions by various Service Admisors that CA gas is alot more prone to gum up injectors and valves, so I figured its use couldn't hurt. I do question the potential damage to the Cats of these additives as I have had three cats fail over the past 10 years on various cars; not sure if there is a direct correlation.

I have never used oil additives, even on high mileage cars. If you want to learn more than you ever cared to know on the topic, there's likely alot of in depth discussions over on bobistheoilguy.com

I'll run a can of injector cleaner before my oil change.
My G also makes that high-pitched sound at WOT above 6500 RPM range which I've always suspected was noise from the VVEL system. I found Lubegard Biotech, which is an ester additive, eliminates it. A 5 qt jug of premium synthetic and a bottle of biotech is still way less expensive than a fill of Nissan ester semi-synthetic, so that's what I've been doing. Smooths out the engine nicely as well

I trust the team at MotoIQ, and here's their take on Nissan Ester Oil: https://motoiq.com/revenge-of-the-ne...with-diamonds/
