3 belts shredded after alternator change G37XS (PLEASE HELP)
Hello everyone! I have g37xs with 218k miles. I recently swapped out my alternator due to bearing failure. I purchased a used alternator from someone parting out there g37 coupe. Installed it and there was no more loud whining noise Hooray! Drove for about an hour on the street and freeway and when I was taking off from a light I hear a weird noise and I lost power steering. Pulled over and discovered the belt was shredded and wrapped around the pulleys. Ok, so I get another belt and try again. This time it shredded after a few hours of driving.
And btw I checked all the pulleys for play or any hard to turn spots. They all checked out ok.
So this time I decide to remove the power steering pump, p/s bracket and alternator and reinstall them to make sure everything was aligned properly. After that I noticed the alternator pulley sticks out 1/8th further than the power steering pump pulley... So I removed everything and reinstalled the alternator and p/s pump again and bolted everything down nice and tight in its place and I still noticed that the alternator pulley is out a little further than the p/s pumps pulley by about 1/8th... Is this normal? Or is it possible the g37 coupe's alternator pulley is slightly different than g37xs?
Now today on my last install of a new belt I changed the tensioner as well and it did the same thing! 😔 Please help with any info, I'm running out of money and I've been down since the end of June.

If your original alternator is the 130 Amp alternator then that may be your issue. A quick search shows it's the same from 2010-2013. If yours was 150 Amp then it should be compatible.

Yup, even if that Alternator pulley is slightly out of alignment it will be putting crazy stress on your belt. I’d return that alternator and see if they can recompense you for the belts you’ve eaten. It’s a long shot, but 99% sure there’s an alignment issue with the pulley.
