They glue it on. I had a difficult time myself when I replaced mine with a voodoo **** several years ago. I believe I wrapped it with some duct tape, to prevent damage and then used a pair of vice grips and a short pipe. It is right hand threads.
We are talking about a 6mt, right?

Mine was a two person project... one with a big wrench on the shaft under the ****, the other with a big wrench around the **** itself. The OEM **** was immediately destroyed. And by that I mean the leather and padding was ripped off the core.

If that's what it takes, accept it. And if for some reason you want to go back to the OEM ****, then buy one new. Odds are a brand new OEM **** will look better that your original anyway, right?

If you're talking about the gear selector for the 7AT, then IDK.

Just remembered, I used a strap wrench and a pipe. And like Rochester, I believe I broke it. I'll have to look at all of the ***** that I have. I have changed everyone of the OEM shift ***** on every car I ever bought. I like the short throw.
