2012 smoky quartz vs 2013 moonlight white
Hey Guys, looking at a practical & reasonably fun car to own now that I have sold my 2005 E55. Obviously the G37 is a big step down for obvious reasons but I see it as a big step up in reliability & cost of ownership. I was getting killed recently with the E55 maintenance & such mileage was 150K+
Anyways, here is how the cars stack up
2012
Smoky Quartz
Beige interior
Has tech package for sure
No mods other than paddle shifters
New tires & front brakes
2013
Moonlight White
Black interior - looks & smells new
Not sure about packages yet
No mods
Tires are toast
Delta Trade off
2013 is $1K more money & needs tires say $800 VS being 1 year newer & 13K miles less
From a numbers perspective & looking at the market it seems the $1.8K delta may not technically be worth it but really the cars are a wash in terms of value
Comes down to colour!
Do either colours have any kind of issues ie. orange peel or thin paint etc..
Owned 1 white car before & they looked great clean & horrible dirty
I feel the quartz won't look as bad dirty but seems kinda boring (not sure that matters)
Opinions?
Plans are to get tints, wheels & a slight lowering eventually

I recently shopped Q40's and G37's
I never wanted a white car but the moonlight white is just spectacular. Especially with black interior.
I ended up with a liquid platinum Q40 because the price/package/miles combo was to good to turn down
But if i had my choice, it would be moonlight white.
Of course the extra maintenance of cleaning is the trade off.
But you already know this
Welcome to the forum!
BTW, I think the smokey quartz is not as boring as silver, but not as exciting as moonlight white.

Thanks, the white was very nice, seemed to have some pearl
Reading a bit more in the last few mins, what years G37's are starting to get dash peeling/cracking?
I specifically steered clear of FX35's to avoid that disaster
Hoping 2012/2013 isn't affected?

I wonder if you guys live in the super sunny states. I live in the NE. I also have never treated my dash with cleaners or anything like that.

Turns out the c@cksucker selling the 2012 pulled the car off the market after I just met with him and drove an hour to view. Leaves me with the white one, made a deal on that one despite future dash unknowns...
ill go ahead with a sunvisor and dark tints
Car has 24k miles

Nice choice! I have a Smoky Quartz sedan and it looks almost the same clean or dirty. A good thing? yes, to the person who doesn't care, but to me, no. It is a boring color but you can make it a little more interesting. MW is beautiful color and leaves you the most options when it comes to appearance mods IMO. You'll enjoy it.
btw, I bought my car in TX with 80k on it. I'm at 106k now and dash looks as good as new. You should be fine. Mine is parked outside mainly too and though I'm from OH I live in NC. We get a lot of heat and sun too
