But that gearshifter is sooooo sexy. It compensates for its other faults.

You're nuts, OP. That GTO is awesome! The uniqueness of a Holden import, with the heritage of the GTO, and the legendary status of a Lingenfelter custom build. If that isn't special, IDK what is.

It's weird how we're both into our G's, but you lean towards go-karts like the Lotus, whereas I lean towards boat anchors like the old GTO. Big tent.

I've always like the GTOs but I thought they had some weird issue with the rear suspension That being said, I bet there are a lot of low mileage pristine condition examples out there that were toy cars. A 6.0 GTO would be a blast

That was made after Lingenfelter died, so I don't think it carries quite as much status. I use to love reading about his builds in Car & Driver and Motor Trend back in the day

In other future car news that only I care about.....the STI gets Apple Car and Android Auto for 2019, as well as the shorter 3rd gear from the RA to go along with the RA engine upgrades. I'm leaning towards Ice Silver Metallic with the wing delete

Nope. Especially since it is an automatic.

You crack me up because you are clearly the crazy one. You are so detail oriented and seem to care about craftsmanship and yet here you are drooling over a $47,00!?! plastic fantastic boat anchor Pontiac. You think your car has squeaks? Just wait until you drive that bucket of bolts. For $47k I could buy a really fast car actually built in this decade that would far surpass the GTO in every way- ATS-V, M3, probably even close on a GT-R.

I'm not so into go carts, but high quality and light weight are appealing to me which is why the GTO is not- it's the exact opposite.

I am also scouring the internet constantly for new STI news. Wait until the next generation comes out. Trust me on this. The 2019 STI is still going to have the same engine, transmission, and AWD that they have been using since 2004!?!

Not that I don't mostly disagree with you, and this being your thread, however... I briefly considered getting a 2009 Pontiac G8 GT, but the quality on that barge left a whole lot to be desired.

Dude, I'm a product of my youth, which was surrounded by crappy domestic muscle. And in that context, yes, that GTO is freaking awesome. (Except for the seats. I don't understand why the GTO seats are so dumb.)

I'm fine with all that--tons of support for the 2.5EJ, rod actuated 6MT, hydraulic steering, 3 LSDs, etc.

I don't want to wait until 2021, and I also don't want the inevitable electronic nannies that are almost guaranteed to be on the next gen. Subaru has already said there isn't going to be a hatchback/wagon, and that it will continue to be a sedan.

Worst case, it's super awesome x10 and I trade up to the next gen. Having had a STI, you know they have incredible resale value.

Muscle cars are cool and everyone's taste in cars is different, but I think you are missing the point about a 12 year old Pontiac for $47,000. It seems like there are a lot better options out there for you. If you have your heart set on a GTO, a quick run through Autotrader shows that most '06 GT0's are selling for less than $20k and a lot are under $15k. You could probably make one of those into 1,000hp and still be under $47k. Maybe I am just missing what you find awesome about that car.

It's not a bad car and you are right about them holding their value, but I feel like Subaru is finally going to make some large changes to the car in the next generation.

They might, but I also think, like all new cars, there is going to be more tech than I want. I'm 40 going on 80 according to the younger guys I work with

I also don't think they are going to drop much more than 330-340 horsepower into it. Worse case I flip it for a 2021 or 2022, but like I've said, I'm trying to set things up to get a 2 door something as a 3rd car in 4-5 years. I want to get back to having a toy car.

Gotcha. Most of the new tech in cars is pretty simple to operate and Subaru is years behind big companies like Nissan, Toyota, VW, etc. in terms of tech. so it probably won't be all that technologically different. I just hope it is different in terms of performance.

The current or 2019 STI is not a bad car to consider if you are thinking of a more dedicated performance car in 4-5 years. Hopefully, they are not all electric by then. (fingers crossed) I had 2 cars once and I found that I was often driving the wrong one and did not really like the extra upkeep, insurance, storage space, etc. To each their own, but I usually like the swiss army knife of cars- lots of different uses.

You are. I wasn't taking price into account for whatever intrinsic awesomeness the car has. By that logic, a Pontiac Aztek would be "awesome" if it passes inspection and costs $50. (No, it wouldn't. But you get my point, LOL)

So no, I wouldn't actually buy that particular GTO.

And yes, I would instead find a low-mileage one, probably in Cyclone Gray Metallic.

IDK why I like this so much. Just do.

Well, to each their own. I used to really like VW GTI's (probably because I grew up with a few) and now they look like roller skates to me.

Those prices are consistent with the 2018.

2018 STI Limited has a MSRP of $40,895, the 2019 looks like it's getting an increase to $41,395.

So a $500 increase for Apple Car Play/Android Auto, shorter 3rd gear, and 310 horsepower. Hopefully that 5 horsepower bump is the full RA engine--revised intake, exhaust, tuning, pistons and sodium filled exhaust valves. Seems reasonable.

I'd expect the redesigned 2020 (or 2021) to get a bigger price bump

Two thoughts. One is that you work in a Candy Store, LOL.

And the other... I wonder what the trade-in was for?
