I'd rather spend the $1500-2k for a proper mechanical or Torsen-style than a VLSD, if I was doing that.

And yeah - right now I could do the Akebono upgrade for free LOL with parts sitting in the garage.

If the only differences are:
- Wheels - Everyone changes the wheels anyways
- Akebono - These are cheap AF now. Grab some rebuilt ones and rotors for under 1k.
- LSD - this is the big one... maybe a used VLSD will still fit?
The 2023 Z no longer uses a VLSD but instead a mechanical clutch type unit. The Performance model is also fully loaded with heated leather, larger infotainment screen, and other odds and ends the base doesn't not come with.

I don't care either but that's what they offer, either base or fully loaded with no in between.

If they offered stand alone options, I would get upgraded seats, LSD, & Akebonos.

They need a club (racing) trim like the Miata.

But with their experience and bad press re: non-factory level motorsports and the GT-R transmissions (ie: we built in launch control as a feature but if you use it your transmission will grenade and we'll void your warranty) I can kinda see why they are gunshy.

Doesn't match up with the marketing that they are doing, though.

In normal times, I'd be taking this car for a test drive ASAP. But these aren't normal times, and dealerships barely hold inventory anymore.

The only way you can drive a new car these days is to put money down, wait for it to show up, then test drive it before either moving ahead with the purchase, or getting your money back.

People really need to lay the GT-R trans "issue" to rest. Yes it was in issue during the launch of the vehicle but Nissan quickly went back on their word and supported customers. The warranty book even says you can do 4 consecutive launches before you need to drive the car around to let the trans cool off.

I'm not dissing the GT-R as a physical product. I'm commenting on the way Nissan handled it - bad press, even if they eventually covered the issue under warranty. And yes, if the internet forgot about it then Nissan would have a clean slate with this car. But the internet never forgets... even when it should.

I think I'd lean towards a Corolla GR over the new Z, mainly because I would like a fun car to drive in winter.

300whp, AWD, Stick, usability, 3200-3300 pds, and subtle aggressive look...really nice package. Only "drawback" is what that 3 popper sounds like once you start modifying it.

Why not get an STi? This formula has been around for a while.

Because they killed it for 2022? The GR is going to be a lighter chassis and a better motor from the go. I can see a lot of WRX/STi owners jumping on this once they're ready to move on.

EJ's are so old though. I would have consider one if they had a refreshed motor. Been in my friends E30 FA20 and that was really nice. I just don't know how I feel about the flat 4's in general though. A straight 3 sounds easy and nice.

I kinda wish they would just bring the Alltrac/GT4 Celica back though! Hell what I wouldn't do for a modern day equivalent of DSM's too. To think those cars were AWD Turbo stick @15k (not adjusted for inflation). The good old days and I didn't even know it.

+1

A new STI with an updated motor would have been appealing, but the EJ is just so dated, and doesn't exactly have a stellar reputation for reliability or efficiency.
