400 hp in a little car like that, weighing what... 3200 pounds? That's more than enough. Probably enough to push it down into the high 12s, yes?

That type of performance should be plenty for most people on the street. I would think that high 12's should be fairly attainable with that much power, but to be fast on track these days you need a lot more power or a lot less weight. The new Corvette should really screw up the $$$/lap time ratio, especially once the Z06 and ZR1 versions come out. Here is to hoping that the new Z is at least somewhat of a giant killer like the original.

I don't think the latest Zs were that light, probably closer to 3,300-3,400lbs depending on the trim level. With all of the extras that come with a TT motor + all the new safety tech I would think the car would weigh closer to 3,400lbs. Not great but not terrible either for a production car in this day and age.

400hp is more than plenty to run a 12 second 1/4 mile.

Agree -- the Q50/60 can run the 1/4 in 13.0 or so. I imagine stock, the new Z should be in the 12s. After some bolt ons and a tune it will be pretty potent.

Yup, they all weigh a bit over 3,300 depending on the trim. You bring up a good point about weight. About the same time Nissan announced they were bringing out a Z prototype a number of articles came out about how Nissan discovered a new process to develop carbon fiber in about 50-80% less time (depending on which article you read). This should also significantly reduce the cost. Coincidence that they discovered this new carbon fiber process at the same time as they are working on the new Z? Let's hope not.

The rumor is that they are planning to use the same Z chassis, but maybe they decide to use this new carbon fiber process for the chassis. That would be awesome and also the best way to save any real weight while adding significant strength. My guess is that they hype up the new process, but only use it for some small part like the roof. The car already has an aluminum hood, rear hatch, doors, suspension components, and a carbon fiber drive shaft to try to reduce weight so replacing any of those things with carbon fiber will only make a negligible difference in total weight. Here is to hoping they use this new carbon process for significant weight and strength gains on the new Z.

Why does the production quality of these reveals always suck? Always.

Big 6-pot front calipers. Beautiful rear, nice profile, dumb looking grille.

this is 100% my take. I love the body lines and the rear. The front is just meh. It’s like they were scared of the garishness of the Supra, and really neutered the front.

Does look better in official photos. I just cant get over the giant rectangle grille. All they need to do is make it slope out a bit at the bottom...

Oh no... dash pods. No-o-o-o-o-o!

The interior design doesn't fit the exterior theme, IMO. And the center console looks like it was designed in the 90's, with the 6MT surround awkwardly jammed in there.

All in all, it's an appealing car, though. Looking forward to a Springtime test drive (or whenever).

I really like it, and imaging it in other colors, with different wheels, and a spoiler gives me extremely high hopes. The color they chose I felt didn't show the body lines very well. Also man that presentation was boring, and they didn't give enough specs.

That being said, seems like the facebook groups are overwhelmingly negative about it. I think it's like most new cars, takes awhile to grow on people.

Just renders still? I was under the impression things were further along than that and more was going official. In any case, Nothing I see dampens my intrigue. The grille doesn't bother me, although it could be just a hair better integrated. I was hoping the headlights themselves would be rounder. I LOVE the rear view. One minor complaint - in the side view there's something a touch clumsy about the rear haunch with the nice character line in the door just disappearing into nothing against a high, broad fender just sort of squared off along the top.

The interior actually looks pretty nice. Not a huge surprise since Nissan has upped their game significantly in the last 5yrs. (even though I'm sure in real life the surfaces won't be as premium-looking as it's free to make them in a render) It won't qualify for Supra money, but it's probably not going to cost supra money. Or at least it shouldn't except for maybe the Nismo version if they're smart. The big question is how neutered is the base model.

BTW, has anybody driven both a current 370z and a Supra? My G was quite roomy but I've never actually sat in a current 370z. I'm a pretty big guy and with a long torso/short legs. I got into a Supra at the auto show last year - barely. I was in, but it wasn't good. My head was as far back as I could get it, and I couldn't really lean forward, and my feet still threatened to tangle in the pedals. And with the chopped roof line and long overhang, the visibility was downright scary. The overall feeling was super claustrophobic. I love the idea of the Supra but I could never own one. I just don't fit. I sure hope the next Z is just a little more flexible with headroom than that.
