$4000 to spend on performance...

Good thread w/ some great advice. Can't go wrong with the Tein Basis (they're actually called Tein Basis Z now), if you source these they will probably only state that they fit coupes, but they work just fine for the Sedans too. They are a mild drop coilover which is perfect for a daily driver and along w/ the upgraded sway bars should provide decent handling when push comes to shove. If you want the ability to adjust the damping pressure you can opt for the Tein Flex Z, they are basically the same as the Basis but have the adjustable dampers for about $300 more. These Teins use the factory top shock mounts which is good, many aftermarket coilover mounts can contribute to noise issues over time (the premium KW coilovers also use the OEM mounts). T
Agree on the intakes, a good final piece to the puzzle when included w/ a tune, but the true cold air intakes such as Stillen Gen 3, Takeda, and Injen long tubes are about $500ish and the gains are mainly at the top so your initial low end torque will be lacking (something these VQs are already short on).
Light & Strong wheels combined w/ great gripping summer tires will be your most noticeable mod, be sure to browse the wheel folder for ideas. I was on heavy 20s but now on light 18s and much better, plus the tires are cheaper
Only DIY that's really tough is getting the OEM cats changed out, most other DIYs are just time consuming, but check the DIY folder, most every project is in there so you can judge if it's something you can perform.
And VenomGT is THE MAN when it comes to finding steals of deals on quality wheels.
Have fun, and here's a thread about sourcing the Big brake kit on a budget

you guys are a deep pool of knowledge.
Oddly enuff I've never even driven a Sport. Is the handling FAR better than the Journey? I'll have to go out this weekend and find one to drive. How much would I need adjustable dampening?
Thanks for the heads up on the Tein Basis Z Coupe models will fit Sedan info.
Hey blnewt,
you have any pics I can see of your G on 18's? I have 18's now and they look smaller than I like. But then I don't have a drop on mine.

Limited slip differential
Summer-only performance tires
Staggered wheels
Close ratio steering
It adds up. While there's nothing people will likely do to a Journey about the differential or the steering, if you upgrade your shocks, sways and tires, you'll make enough of a difference to be happy. Now I can't speak for Brad on this, but that's what he's going to say anyway.

Rochester also had a good suggestion on Camber arms. I have the full SPC kit and paid about $600 iirc but I don't know if it's going to be necessary on your car unless you plan on an aggressive drop and need to realign more than factory will allow. but I think it's a solid choice. I don't know what I would choose between those, Akebonos, and a tune to be honest.
Great advice there from Iracknback. Maybe not the brakes... if the OP's focus is performance. Can't deny the looks, though. The Akebono BBK is gorgeous. And he's right, the intake is a minor thing, somewhere between negligible and an actual detriment.
Those are more fine-tuned pricing estimates, too, assuming minimal cost while still getting quality components.
Meh. Just drop the whole wad on wrapping the entire car.

If the case regarding the intake is true, if I have an ARK Grip CBE + Z1 HFC, I was waiting to purchase a Stillen Gen3 Intakes then do an EcuTek tune with Seb. But, if i do not need to buy the Stillen Gen 3, is it safe to do the tune now?
In other words, with CBE + HFC, would you do a full ecutek tune or would you wait for the intakes. Thanks!
Edit: Just read blnewt and he said it is a good final piece before a tune. But is it needed? Would I still hit 290-300whp+ or would i need that intake for those numbers.

Hey J, you forgot to add that the Sport has the cool red S on the trunk too.
And OP, here's a few pics of my 18s on my lowered G, and when it's time for new tires I'm going to run at least 255 width in front and 275 or 285s in back

I'm dropped to zero gap @ 26.25" at the fender arcs on Megan Street LP coilovers, but the Teins will drop that amount without issues. But I also have full F&R SPC camber arms and rear toe kit to keep alignment well in spec.
And yeah John, those pics are a bit old, nothing has changed except the wrinkles on my face

OP - I have plenty of pics on my Instagram @ IracknBack
Also a list of my mods are found on my build thread:

To add pics I think they have a new feature here that allows site hosting. otherwise sign up for photobucket and just paste the IMG link here.

If it were me, and i'm sort of in the same boat. I just picked up a 2010 g37x with 107k miles black on black. I'm trying to break up things in stages which i'm still figuring out, but before anything i would make sure the car is mechanically sound, and deal with those issues first before dumping money into addons. If your foundation has issue's the house will fall. Personally i think working your way from ignition, to air intake, to exhaust should be the first steps.
