Sedan weight reduction
#46
Infiniti Parts Online just gave me the listings they got from Infiniti for the following stock parts, but they warned me that they are not always 100% accurate.
Cats- 10 lbs each
Y pipe- 12.4 lbs
Mid pipe 12.5 lbs
Mufflers 12 lbs each
Front sway 6.6 lbs
Rear sway 5lbs
If anyone has these parts laying around and confirm, that would be great. I am waiting to hear back from Z1 on the weight of their high flow cats and hotchkis sways. I bet I gain weight on the sways.
I also called Stillen about the exhaust and their shipping weight is 81 lbs!?! That does include packaging, but even if there is 10 lbs of packaging that means the Stillen exhaust would actually gain 20 lbs. Possible. I might weigh it when I get a chance to do the rear diff bushing.

John from Z1 never called me back about the weights and I have been trying to call him for the last three days only to be told that he is busy "tuning a car" and to "try back later." He never returns messages either so it is pretty frustrating to get such poor service when I have spent thousands of dollars with that company.
I finally got someone at Z1 who had access to the shipping weights, but I don't know how much the packaging weighs so those weights are useless. Regardless, the Hotchkis sways must be made out of lead because with the brackets and shipping materials they weigh 28lbs?!? The Z1 cats weigh 20lbs shipped together so they must be a bit lighter than stock.
If anyone has weights of the stock exhaust, Stillen exhaust, stock sways, Hotchkis sways, etc, please let me know.
Thanks!

2011 sedan stock exhaust weight:
y-pipe = 15 pounds
twin resonator section = 20 pounds
Mufflers weigh 14 pounds apiece.
There's a heat shield I didn't weigh but is maybe 1 pound.
All up OE sedan exhaust weight is 64 pounds, give or take.
My crappy digital bathroom scale wouldn't detect the items individually, I had to weigh myself (to establish tare), step off to zero it then pick up part and step back on. I did this for each part.

Well if the Z1 cats really do save 10 lbs. then that makes up for the additional weight of the Stillen exhaust. I took off the mufflers and mid pipe and they weigh 57.6 lbs. or roughly 8.6 lbs. more than the stock exhaust according to slartibartfast's weights.
Does anyone have weights of the stock sway bars? The weights I posted above from a vendor seem a bit high. I also weighed my rear Hotchkis sway bar- 8.6 lbs. so it weighs about 3.5 lbs. more than stock according to the vendor's weights. Not bad considering how much larger the sway is. I bet the front sway weighs a lot more though.
Let me know if you have any of these stock or aftermarket parts that you can weigh. I can fill in the blanks then. Thanks!

Post up any part weight differences people! I'll take them.
I was actually looking for ways to vent my hood to help with all the heat. The best option I found so far was a Seibon carbon hood that has 3 big vents on each side. So I was either going to paint it white and try to find a way to seal up the vents for rain/snow or just bolt it on for track days. It might save a little bit of weight. Might be something I do eventually. But I think I would benefit more from a better radiator 1st.

According to Motordyne, this is the same weight as the ART pipes that I installed. No weight benefit I guess.
I also have a pair of Berk HFCs laying around that I can weigh later on...
