The K&N drop-ins with the black, logoless CZP silicon intake tubes are a nice OEM+ mod. Even passes smog here in CA, despite it being illegal to modify anything on the intake side after the MAF.
I also like that silicone hoses have a greater temperature resistance compared to rubber hoses (still recommend rubber on the coolant side).
I think the OEM intake setup is well designed, I know some do the silicone hoses for the post MAF intake tubes to smooth out the tube to get rid of the ribbing on the OEM tubes. On the VR30 it also has a very well designed intake (aside form the BS airbox latches and the effort to get the filters out) and on that platform seems people just get the silicone hoses to smooth the transition as well.

True, our intakes, and those on the Q, are not a bottleneck. I have a set of OEM premium filters (orange ones) that I throw in when I clean the K&Ns since I like for the K&Ns to dry for a couple days before spraying the oil on the cleaned filter. I will try to see if there is more lowend torque. I'm curious now.

It made my G run like a dog in the city. Was fine on the highway as the car did feel like it was breathing better. I THINK the K&N's let in too much air and it confuses the computer. I could spin the tires from a stand still with the oem filters but with the K's it would just cut power and just slowly go. I drive hard and fast so I notice stuff like that.

I've used these once or twice in the past. A while back I standardized on the premium OEM Orange Filters with the black frame based on guidance from one of the service managers I had worked with for years (he left and went to Mercedes). He said that the premium filters were much higher quality and was dissapointed that Infiniti took the Value Advantage route to increase profits and keep prices low (customers can still request the original premium filters). I was always DIY with the air filters, so the cost difference between the two online was negligible; I never had issues with either. I moved to K&N just a couple of oil changes ago because I was interested in trying them out with the silicon intake tubes.
Many online repeat what they saw in one study on YouTube which showed K&Ns allowed 200x more harmful elements to pass through the filter. That was a datapoint for me, but I thought it was odd that a company which has been around since the 60s would continue to stay in business by selling a vastly inferior product.
As such, I wanted to monitor the Silicon, Lead and Iron via the UOA from Blackstone because chemistry tends to be relatively straight forward and free of configuration variables. I also like that I can call one of their analysts and talk about the results, then also listen to the topic being discussed on the podcasts. Confirmation bias...maybe?
I will run another UOA in 1,000 miles and keep an eye on things, but at this point I am not seeing any of the destruction that's supposedly being caused by K&N air filters. I also check my MAFs every other oil change as its easy to do, and they look fine. I plan to clean and re-oil the filters this weekend, so I will report back again in 10K miles to see if I caused them to fail by servicing the filters. I suspect this is why OEMs don't recommend K&Ns as there are so many failure points asking a user to manage this process themselves.
Still curious about losing power on the lowend, so I will test a little with the OEM paper filter to see if I can notice a difference. Good discussion BTW.
You can still buy the original oiled air filters. They have not been discontinued, the whole purpose NVA / Infiniti Maintenance Advantage line is so Nissan can "compete" with aftermarket parts.

Sorry. I wasn't trying to imply that they were discontinued. I made a change above to clarify. The premium filters are definitely excellent quality and would be the only filter I'd use outside of the K&Ns I'm trying out now. I seem to recall reading that the NVA filters were just rebranded WIX, so they are likely fine as well.
After a year of stupid vibrations 50-65MPH, countless of balancing, 2x prematurely warped rotors, I changed my front wheel bearings along with one of those old warped rotors that were resurfaced.
Vibrations are gone, My pads dont make a clanking noise when I reverse anymore.
They are a day old so possibly premature celebration but pads are broken in and ride to work was fantastic and vibration free.
Could bad wheel bearings cause warped rotors or vice versa?
How many miles are on your car? Just wondering when the wheel bearings go on these cars and what the symptoms are when they are bad.

I believe that bearings will warp rotors as they flex the rotor will glide across the pad always wearing one side more than the other, I also believe that as the clamping occurs the opposite end of the rotor tries to vibrate which also wear the pad unevenly

160k. I was trained to hear the hum upon speed which would increase with speed as well as the moving of the wheel from the 12 and 6 position and if there is then there is play in the bearing. I did not have these which was what messed me up.
I do have 20mm spacers and believe this is what killed them prematurely. Granted 160k is not terrible for a car that has seen abuse it's whole life but I'm a firm believer that the spacers and my 4was alignment issues contributed to unnecessary wear.
I do say this, I have taken almost every method of balancing possible. Flattening rotors, spacers and wheels, multiple balances, changes of tires and it has not felt this smooth since I've owned it. I bought the car with 3 bent wheels, upgraded to 15 spoke 19s and was slightly better but always the 50-65mph stupid shake.
@BULL My front wheel bearings had no vertical play either and didn't make any noise I could hear over the tires. But when I changed them, the old bearings had a gritty feel when turning and one had a scrape noise. Car got more stable with new ones. 75,000 miles roughly
