I recently bought a 2013 G37 Journey sedan with 12k miles on it.

Goal: I need a good handling car with descent looks and good sound.

Mods (Considering): Eibach Pro kit, Sways bars front and back, strut bar, 20 inch wheels and Top Speed Pro Y Pipe back exhaust.

Questions:
1) What are the possible mechanical/suspension/alignment related issues I can come across with these mods beside ride quality?
2) What other parts I may need beside the ones I listed in order to achieve this goal.
3) If I go with 20's, then what are the idiol specs I should look for. Like how wide, what offset, which brands from quality prospective..?
4) Is it possible to say within OEM spec alignment with all these mods?
5) Top Speed Y Pipe back exhaust, any reviews?

(Consider me as newbie. I don't know ****, believe me.. )

You may blow out your OEM shocks prematurely with lowering springs. Each spring is different and has different rates and different height changes so most people upgrade their shocks to aftermarket ones as well that are designed to accommodate lowering springs. You might get some better handling too.


Most of the parts you mentioned are great for handling. In terms of performance or sound you could add an intake and high flow cats or test pipes (but that might get too loud for some people's taste)


If your car is RWD you have a bit more freedom in terms of going with a staggered setup. Common specs for staggered 20's are 20x9 front with 245/35/20 tires and 20x10.5 rear with 275/30/20 tires. If your car is AWD you can still run staggered but the AWD/VDC system is a lot less forgiving than on the RWD so you need to keep your rolling diameters as close as possible between front and rear. The above specs will be fine on AWD, but to be even safer you can run a square setup.


If handling is your main concern, you may be better off going with 18's or 19's which can look great as well. 20's tend to get heavy and detract from the car's handling.


Not sure exactly how much the Eibach springs will drop, but if you're trying to maximize handling and adjustability, you can get a aftermarket front & rear camber kits. You'll be able to fine-tune your alignment specs and won't have to worry about being off.


Searching would help big time on this one, but for the most part they get pretty positive reviews. The only thing is that they seem to be out of stock everywhere at the moment (and have been for some time now) and people are frustrated because vendors aren't being clear about when they'll be getting more.

All solid advice, I would just like to back up the fact that 20s would be a terrible choice.
19s in what you want, stick with that. 18s are too small for these platforms, they belong on the Zs.

Thanks for quick reply guys.. So couple of more questions..

(My car is RWD)

1) @the93Owner Are you suggesting me to go straight to coils? because the aftermarket struts sounds like coil overs to me .
The reason why I chose Eibachs because the ride is more comfortable then coils and still I can get the descent looks. Should I go with Eibachs right now and wait until it blows up my stock struts and then move to aftermarket coils/struts? (Considering coilovers are not in my budget as well for right now)

2) Staying on Eibachs and 20's, do I need extra parts such as camber kits, toe bolts and control arms in order to get back into OEM alignment?
And if I cannot get these extra parts right now and keep my car just on Eibachs with 20's, what are the negative consequences related to suspension and tires?

Eibachs drop is 1.2 front and 1.5 back or the other way around.

It looks lke you have an X so staggered is fine but you need to be careful. I run 20's and my wheel specs are as follows and it's perfect fitment.

20x8.5+24 front wrapped in 245/35/20
20x10.5+45 rears wrapped in 285/30/20

ZERO AWD issues as the rolling diameter is almost exactly the same front and rear.

Get coilovers Fortune 500 makes awesome coilovers for us X owners and they ride and handle like a dream. Upgrade them with Swift Springs. Get SPC front and rear camber kits so you're alignment can be done properly. Hotchkiss sways are awesome upgrade.

Strut bar is more for looks, but they are cheap and may add some additional handling response. I did my suspension all at once so it was night and day when I was done.

Exhaust get ARK GRIP!!!

Also at least get an intake for the sound and added performance. Takeda Attack Long Tube Intake is the best bang for your buck there.

Check out some build threads for more ideas. Have fun modding, this will just be the beginning.

Coilovers would be better, yes, but switching out your springs and shocks for aftermarket sets doesn't mean they're coilovers. Springs don't have height adjustability whereas coilovers do. And in most cases, shocks don't have adjustable damping whereas coilovers also do. So you can see where the advantages are, in terms of tuning your handling settings.


Depending on how low you get dropped on those Eibachs you may not need camber kits to get you within OEM specs. With a 1-1.5 inch drop I think you'll be fine, you may not be within OEM spec completely but not too far off where you'll have any major tire wear. Most people at lesat pick up a set for the rear. They should only run you about $160 for the pair of camber arms with toe bolts. There's lots of info out there so I'm sure with some searching you can find out what other people have done with their Eibachs.

So after all the research, I concluded with this list for suspension:

Eibach Pro Kit
SPC Front Camber Control Arms
SPC Rear Camber Control Arms and toe bolts
Hotchkis Sway Bars Front and Rear
Strut Bar

Tyres and wheels: (Not so sure yet, I may go with 19's)
20's (20x9 front with 245/35/20 tires and 20x10.5 rear with 275/30/20 tires)

1) Just in case if I go with 19's, do you guys still think I will need Camber kits for front and rear?
2) And if I go with 20's setup, what should be my offset on wheels with the setup mentioned above so I don't need to stretch tires.

Your G is RWD... consider the Tein Basis coilovers. You can't adjust damping, but if you're OK with that, you'll get a ride as good or better than the OEM RWD Sport shocks. And you can dial in whatever height you want. The price difference between these and a set of lowering springs really isn't that dramatic. They're an amazing value, IMO.

I see a lot of posters wanting to lower their car yet retain the soft ride. Can't really do that when reducing spring travel, you start smacking the bumps stops on a regular basis and that's not good. So, ride compliance vice handling. "Gotta keep 'em separated."
