q50 400hp
Do you guys know if the q50 400hp engine is the same exact engine as the 300hp detuned version? Same as in same parts inside out. I read the 400hp one has 14psi while 300hp has 8psi. They didnt mention anything about different piston or rods or different head. So im guessing the 300hp is just detuned but is the same engine.

"The VR itself is a pretty marked departure for Infiniti.
The aluminum block and heads result in an engine 40 pounds lighter than the outgoing V-6.
It credits both direct-injection and electric valve timing for better acceleration and lower emissions.
It adds a water-to-air intercooler.
The exhaust manifold is integrated into the head for weight savings and to shorten the flow path, reducing lag.
400-hp versions have a special sensor that, due to the high boost pressure (14.7 psi versus 8.7 psi in the 300-hp version), senses when the turbo is nearing its redline (220,000+ rpm)."

The new VR30DETT has not been released yet, so all we have to go on is the specs. When it gets closer to production, we'll find out more about the internals and differences between the two versions.

While the 300hp version is fitted with a single intercooler pump, the 400hp engine uses two for more effective management of heat when under operating at higher loads. In addition, for the 400hp variant an optical turbo speed sensor gives a 30% power boost to the turbo system by allowing the blades to spin faster.
The core structure of the 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo engine weighs 429.5lbs – 39.1lbs less than the engine it replaces. The new turbocharger and advanced intercooler (or CAC) system componentry adds just an extra 56.9lbs, for 486.3lbs in total.
New engine is lighter but due to the added turbo and plumbing it weighs 18lbs more than the VQ37

^ +1. i believe the coupe will retain the 6MT so maybe there's hope? maybe not though. they probably would have announced it already. too bad, because these new Q50 engines could make things interesting for sure.
unless my next car is a coupe, the 6MT sedan choices are few and far between. BMW & Audi are the only comparable alternatives that come to mind (not interested in Subaru/VW/Acura). perhaps Lexus will give us an option someday...

I was hoping that the 2016/17 Q50S would have been released by now, but unfortunately not.
I ended up turning in my lease and stepping into a 2015 Q50S and saved myself some $$ on my monthly payments.
The 2013 G37xS would have been $10,000 more to pay off compared to what a Q40 is worth leasing brand new...sucks when this happens.
Truthfully, I actually enjoy the DAC...don't know why so many negative thoughts on it...I'm sure the improvements on the 2016 is better though.
Doesn't look very positive for a manual drive in the future...especially on the Q50.
