I suspect they broke the window, popped open the hood, cut the battery cable, released the parking brake, and towed it away.

Was the battery cable cut?

parts taken too explicit for it to be just a random theft..

The ticket will be dropped. Plead not guilty and just provide evidence like your pictures and the police report of it being stolen. You can do it online also.I'm sorry for your loss. I'm also from NYC and I know all too well, how you cant leave your car parked in NYC public streets without someone fudging it up. BTW, where in NYC was your vehicle parked before they jacked it and did they take the airbags too?

They took the steering wheel airbag only.

I parked the vehicle in Bensonhurst, Bath beach to be exact. The car was towed from East 48th and Foster. The parking ticket was washed out from the rain so I am waiting for it to show up in the system online to take a look at where it was written.

The adjuster will be out today to take a look at it, I don't want to give up the G but this car has been nothing but bad luck since I got it 8 months ago.

The car is totaled. Sad to see it go, while I had bad luck with other people and my car, is been hell of a nice ride.

Looking at an A3 as the replacement.

Sad to see a perfectly nice G go to the junkyard, but that's not a bad replacement if you ask me. Post pics when you get your new ride!
