2003 g35 is lighter than 2012 g37xs.
the X adds weight and the 7 speed in Non-sport mode is geared towards fuel economy.
Try driving 2012 g37S, you might experience different.
Plus the Sport trim comes with 19" wheels which are likely to be heavier compared to the g35 16/17" wheels.

^ we are talking sedans so the xS comes with 18", but yes they will weight a bit more than the G35 17" rims. and comparing the g35 to g37xS you should expect ~300lbs extra weight. i've never owned a slushbox but i have heard lots on here about sluggish 7AT shifts so that would lend itself to a "slower" feeling car. add all this up, and consider similar torque numbers, and it stands to reason the the G37 feels less lively off the line.

on paper the gen 1 sedan had 260hp. in reality it was much closer, if not identical, to the 280hp number from the gen 1 coupe. lots of discussion, anecdotal and dyno evidence on myg35driver on this topic. a bit of marketing magic to help justify the extra cost and "sportiness" of the coupe image.

The 37 is faster, no question about it, but the power comes on a bit later than the old 35. Those with manual transmissions can work around this because we can manipulate the throttle a bit more but the fact of the matter is, unless you are in high rpms or launching it, the car will take a little time to get up to speed.

I agree that power varies car to car. I've had an 07, 08, and now 13. My fastest feeling car was the 07. The 08 g35 felt a touch slower but it beat my buddies 09 g37 several times in the eighth. He would start to pull on me towards the end so I think he could've gotten me in the quarter.
I think weight and options make a decent difference. I drove a non sunroof g37 loaner and it drove like a raped ape.

at best and should be driving in manual mode if you want to drive spirited. You would also know that the cars ECU and Trans "Will" learn driving patterns and if you drive in "DS" mode all the time the DS mode will turn into D mode, It will drive the same. The 7SPD is built to save gas so it rips through the first 3 gears very fast, even if you accel slow to 40 MPH the car is still in 4 th or 5th. Just take control of it when you want to drive it hard.

Nothing scientific, but, when I was buying my '13 G37Xs (November 2014), I also road tested an almost identical '13 G37. I felt the acceleration (seat of the pants) on the G37 was more 'aggressive'.....the G37Xs seemed a little 'calmer', or 'controlled'. Maybe it was the extra weight...

It may be all in my head but it feels to me like my 2012 G37xS is slower than my old 2003 G35 which I still have and drive too.
I have never had “X” car before and the G37 is a 7 speed transmission vs 5 speed on the g35.
However, the G35 feels faster and seems to accelerate faster too. When punching the gas I can actually feel being pressed into the seat a little. Nothing on the g37.
I have not done any 0-60 runs to confirm.
Could this all be because of G35 is rwd and just driving it feel different?
Or did I get a bad copy of the G37?

when ever i get a g37x sedan feels faster than my g37xs sedan--im convinced the smaller tires give in to this feeling. im sure its not a real diff. my car is a 2013 so i cant complain about the 7at tsb either. the feeling is best described as the engine revving without much extra acceleration. issue is the car feels diff on some days. some days feels like it has enough torque other days feels torque deficient.

Notice a change in MPG? I notice that too. I'll be goin up a hill at like 45-50 mph and be in 6th. I'm like da ****
