Look at what happened to the Supra or is happening to the Scion FRS, car people love these cars but they dont sell as well as the Camry no one goes on and on about how great a Camry is but they sell like hotcakes.
Honda gave up the NSX, Prelude to focus on Civic and Accords. I am only guessing that Infiniti figured people that shell out 40-50k for a car are not focused on performance but more on the velvet comforts of a Lexus.

Now if Infiniti / Nissan is listening experiment with a $50k GTR under either brand. I am pretty sure all the people leaving the brand because of the Q will be back quick!

The bottom line is when you have Lexus/Toyota or Honda/Acura people, they don't waiver. You're right, Camry's sell like hot cakes, but a Camry owner (especially a repeat) will NEVER consider a Nissan or any other car for that matter.

Nissan and Mazda have always seemed to strive to be the Japanese BMW, yet provide more reliability. Nissan learned the hard way that they can't beat Toyota at their own game and Ford tried to turn Mazda a Toyota in the late 90's also. Both brands failed miserably.

Back to the Q50. Using the logic you stated, Q50's should be leaping off the showroom floors and the Q40's should be sitting, but they're not. The top seller in the segment is the BMW 3-Series. Wouldn't you want to focus on the leader?

Here are some annual sales numbers for 2014:
3-Series: 142,232
C Class: 75,065
IS : 51,358
Q50: 36,899
A4: 35,585
G37: 15,590

As a reference, in 2013 the G sold 53,405.

This is just disappointment talking...
