I went with two 18in vibrant res, cause that straight pipe was a bit too much for me (GThaus catback w/ FI rhfc). Maybe if my car was a track car or just a weekend car I would leave it.

I have fast intentions catback and hfc and they are both resonated and it has a deep tone and is quiet unless i step on it but sometimes I wish I didn't get resonated catback or hfc =\

What Mr. Alfredo said.

I wish I lived closer to you John...I'd be happy to meet up with you and let you evaluate mine.

I will admit that I had my initial concerns going with no resonators, but I thought, I'd hate it if I got 12" and the tone wasn't deep enough for me. I thought if I'm going to buy this for tone primarily, I may as well get that sexy straight X-pipe. My concerns vanished on the first cold start and drive.

All throughout the process, Lance assured me that the tone would be very deep and he is right. I think I wore Lance out with questions, but being the consummate professional that he is, he never let on that I was asking too many questions.

Also, I drive about 30 miles per day, most of which is highway at 70 mph and I never have an issue with it being too loud.

Your car will sound like a GT-R on every cold start though. I'm not sure why this is but for the first minute of a cold start, it's extremely deep and very loud, but after it's warmed up, the loudness attenuates considerably to a comfortable level that is just pure, unadulterated, deep tone.

I'll be following this discussion closely because I really enjoy getting to experience your decision making process from the sideline. I know I recommended 12's I think in another post but I'm just really in love with the sound of mine with no resonators.

For comparison's sake here's mine:

Also, I agree with Nishfish on NOT welding in resonators after the fact because FI's build and weld quality is top notch. You could always get the non-resonated X-pipe and if you don't like it, order a 12" version and sell the non-resonated one in the classifieds. That was actually my plan, but I liked it so much, I didn't have to go that route.

I appreciate the videos, Snails. My honest opinion is that there's too much thumping going on here, and it's seriously loud, even after the cold-start is over. At this point, it's a toss-up between the 12" and 18" resonators. Still like 90% sure I want the 2.5" pipes.

And there's that VQ hiss on decel that has some people's panties all bunched up.

I can definitely understand and appreciate that John. It is loud and does have a lot of thump going on. I don't have first hand experience hearing the 12" or 18" versions but I have seen some reviews on here where people have said that the 18's left them wanting more.

You might consider going to this page and reading as many of the FI reviews as possible. I even lurked quietly in the shadows on the 370Z forum for reviews too, because same engine as us. I've found that the 370Z sound is a little bit different, I would guess because of different piping length and routing than our cars.

I think it's an interesting difference between the two cars. Both Lance's Z and my G Sedan have the same configuration on the FI exhaust, yet they sound very different.

For me, I didn't have the ability to hear anything in person prior to my purchase decision and reading reviews and watching endless youtube videos was the best way for me to build a mental scatterplot if you will of the different options for the FI setup.

Reviews as well as taste are very subjective, very nuanced, and a very much a matter of to each their own. As I've seen, getting to know different guys on the forum and what they like kind of serves as a reference point for me on my purchase decisions. It's been a fun process of learning, that's for sure.

Relax man, it's just cars and strangers on a discussion forum.

On a lighter note, if you think you're being personally called out for being wound up way to tight, probably the best reaction is not to freak out like that. Sure was funny, though. Can't deny you that.

I was thinking that a little bit about Choman's FI RHFC+Catback, although his was the 2.25" setup. Yours is the only 2.5" FI setup I'm aware of here, and you don't have any resonators except for the cats. Not exactly apples & oranges, more like Macouns and Red Delicious. Both excellent apples.

Anyway, constructive advice... thanks man.
