G35 vs. G37
I read a letter in Automobile magazine that said the G35 is a better car than the G37 and the Q50 is worse than both. I have a G37 so I don't know about the G35, never having driven one. If you have driven all three, is this true?
What makes the G35 better than the G37?

It's less expensive. And you can get that oh-so-cool CF memory slot.

I've had both, although my G35 was also a second generation 2007. Both are very similar, but I wouldn't say the 35 was better. I think I would say it had more of an advantage in styling and performance over similar cars in 2007 compared to what the 37 does now. But then again, it was "fresh"

But really, I think the larger context in Lego's comment is that this is a stupid premise for discussion, so the best you can hope for is that someone ridicule it.

Before you guys say well the G37 has more horse power so it's gotta be faster, you are wrong. Test drove quite a few G35's and I own a G37, and I'll tell you I wish i had the 35's low end power.
From Consumer Reports:
2007 G35 Journey
0-60. 5.4
45-65. 3.7
quarter mile. 14.0
2007 G35 X
0-30. 2.3
0-60. 5.6
45-65. 3.8
quarter mile. 14.2 at 100.6 mph
2009 G37 Journey
0-60. 5.6
45-65. 3.8
quarter mile. 14.1
2014 Q50 AWD
0-30. 2.3
0-60. 5.6
45-65. 4.3
quarter mile. 14.1 at 102.8 mph

I'll answer your question. The G35 was actually faster than the G37 because it had more low end torque. More responsive transmission too. But people complained about the noise, vibration, harshness, and gas mileage of the 3.5 liter engine though, so the G37 was born.

From what I have read, a gear swap will "fix" that problem.

It depends on the source, I've seen 0-60s as low as 5.2 for the 37 and 5.3 for the 35, having owned both it seems like the 37 has a bit more jump off the line but not having to shift as much the 35 times are very close. I wouldn't say one was noticeably faster than the other. Sometimes I miss the more decisive nature of the 5AT, but when filling up I appreciate the 7 speed.
