G35 vs. G37

It depends on the source, I've seen 0-60s as low as 5.2 for the 37 and 5.3 for the 35, having owned both it seems like the 37 has a bit more jump off the line but not having to shift as much the 35 times are very close. I wouldn't say one was noticeably faster than the other. Sometimes I miss the more decisive nature of the 5AT, but when filling up I appreciate the 7 speed.

I just tend to trust CR over everybody because they actually buy their cars off the lot. If you drive like you stole it then they might seem the same but if you drive it normally, like around town or stop light to stop light, it's a big difference in low end power. The 35 power was instantaneous. The 37 you have to wait for it. I'm only talking about the auto transmissions.

I'll answer your question. The G35 was actually faster than the G37 because it had more low end torque. More responsive transmission too. But people complained about the noise, vibration, harshness, and gas mileage of the 3.5 liter engine though, so the G37 was born.
Before you guys say well the G37 has more horse power so it's gotta be faster, you are wrong. Test drove quite a few G35's and I own a G37, and I'll tell you I wish i had the 35's low end power.

LOL at you using consumer reports as a source for anything enthusiast related. How about a more credible source like motortrend where you know, they actually know something about sports cars. To save you the trouble, they got a 5 second 0-60 time in the g37 (compared to 5.3 for the g35) and a 13.5 quarter time (compared to the g35 13.9 time). FAIL.

Why would you even believe that?
No!
The Q50 is a different automobile and haven't driven one yet
No manual transmission.
I put 171796 miles on my 06 G35 6 speed manual and almost 50k miles on my current 2012 G37S
The G37S is far superior to the G35.
Hope that answers your question.

So let me get this straight, so we are both on the same page. You trust a magazine that will say that a certain car is the greatest thing since the reach around, then on the next page is a paid advertisement for that very same car? What does CR not being enthusiast related have to do with anything? If that's what they got then that's what they got. And the faster numbers get your attention. If a magazine constanly rags on BMW's and says their cars are trash do you think that you will see many BMW advertisements in that mag? That's how they make their money. If you were being sued would it be cool with you if the Judge and the plaintiff were best friends? Never fully trust a reviewer that makes their living reviewing products of their sponsors.

All one has to do is compare the dipsticks.
You can then cross off the G35

So let me get this straight, you actually think motortrend is getting paid to fudge numbers comparing the exact same cars (albeit different years) by the same auto manufacturer that produces them? Do you also not know those tests were years apart so how in the world could they forsee this coming?

And now we've got some win in this thread.
My last car had the VQ35DE, in a 2003 Maxima 6MT. It was actually very fast for its class, and took well to mods. But at only 255hp stock, it couldn't hold up to the G37.
The car before that had the VQ30DE, in a 1999 Maxima 5MT. It was fast for its class, and very responsive. But at only 190hp, it couldn't hold up to the 2003 Maxima.
The car before that had the KA24DEI4, in a 1992 240SX 5MT. It was fast for its time, and incredibly thrashable. But at only 155hp, it just wasn't as quick as the 1999 Maxima.
The point of all this is that the 240SX was probably the most fun of them all.

I too have owned both, an ’04 G35 coupe and my current ’08 G37 coupe. IMO the G37 is an improvement because Infiniti solved many of the problems I had with the G35. Difficulties included excessive brake pad dust, no struts to hold up the hood, an oil stick that was near impossible to reach and use, a primitive nav system (e.g., no backup camera), difficulty in reaching the manual seat adjustments when the doors were closed, no keyless ignition, and no music box (just a 6 disc changer).

Chekov introduces an interesting point of view. The subjective evaluation of better-or-worse car may have nothing to do with driving performance or the driving experience. That's a pretty narrow scope that a number of us habitually fall into. It doesn't take into account how easy it is to access your dip stick, or lamenting the absence of future technology.
Everyone has different priorities. That dipstick thing would really p1ss me off.

Yeah, it depends which 35 you're talking about, an 06 or earlier is a different vehicle in many ways, and you'd surely expect Infiniti to iron out problems w/ from the first generation, and I think they did a good job. Comparing the 07-08 35s to the 09+37s isn't a big difference. The 5AT is about 140lbs lighter but the 37 has about 23 more HP so it's close to a wash. Not really enough difference in acceleration to get worked up about IMO if we're talking 07 on up.

I still blame the G37 AT being close to the G35 because of the 7AT's 3.3 gears.

That's stock for stock. I was concerned about the "how fast" factor when researching 07+ g35 compared to my 11 g37. However, when modding and gains come into play, the g37 ends up being the faster car.

This chart shows a nice comparison of gear ratios between the 7AT and 5AT:
