My Straight Pipes

Hey y'all, took a video today trying to record a squeal my car is making - wound up with this exhaust clip instead. Thought I'd share.

That sounds really good. Where did you get it done? Got any pictures?

Thanks!

Just a local place, Tomball Muffler & Brake.

I had them clamp mine on instead of welding, so that re-installing the OEM mufflers would be easy. Wound up using the OEM tips though, so it sort of defeated the purpose… oh well!

Not the prettiest, but hey. I love it. $100 well spent, imo.

So it's like a muffler delete. Sounds decent, but stuck on getting a Fast Intentions or a Motordyne e370.

Yeah, same thing, just different name. I don't have the money for "real" exhaust right now, so I went with something cheap that'll tide me over until then.

Any drone at highway speed...or how about normal driving without WOT? Thanks looking at this mod as an option until I can find muffler replacements

You will get quite some drone at cruising speeds 40-60. At WOT it will scream. Well I got test pipes also so its probably louder for me but the sound IMHO is A+ compared to $1000+ systems.

So what are the negatives to doing a "muffler delete" or "straight pipes"? i know it sounds better than stock but is there power lose/gain?

Your test pipes make a massive difference. There is a resonation at 3k, but below and above that, not annoying at all. And the resonation isn't bad at all in my opinion, I quite like it. I honestly prefer the exhaust I have now to almost all exhaust I've heard.

Not at all. Idle sounds sexy, normal driving is obviously louder than stock, but completely bare able. I puts the Sport in Sport Luxury. Highly recommend it.

Muffler delete is what I'm currently running. Need to have some straight pipes made. Are your tips crooked?

Isn’t there anyone but me who’s concerned that these kind of mods are street-illegal? I mean we’re talking about noise, air pollution and a general disregard for the rule of law.

There are places on earth where a straight pipe setup is not illegal. I'm not a fan, personally, but people often try to transplant their local law onto others. Oklahoma, for example, has no emission testing, or vehicle inspections.

Here in Florida we have no emissions testing or vehicle inspections but that doesn't make the test pipes legal either. I removed the cats on one of my other cars and when I needed some work done to my car I learned the hard way that most shops wouldn't even touch it. As soon as it would go on a lift they would bring it right back down and refuse to work on a car with no cats. YMMV

Wiki
"In the United States, for example, it is a violation of Section 203(a)(3)(A) of the 1990 Clean Air Act for a vehicle repair shop to remove a converter from a vehicle, or cause a converter to be removed from a vehicle, except in order to replace it with another converter.,[24] and Section 203(a)(3)(B) makes it illegal for any person to sell or to install any part that would bypass, defeat, or render inoperative any emission control system, device, or design element"
