Hesitation and Burning Smell

Hesitation and Burning Smell
09 g37x sedan, approx. 39K miles. Noticed a burning smell like hot metal, or wires for the last 4-5 weeks. Changed the cabin filter and still have it. Also yesterday I was getting off the exit ramp about 40 MPH and accelerated normally and it hesitated or jerked for a second. This has happened about 2 times before and I thought it was a bump or pothole (tons of them here!) but it was definitely the car. I have used premium most of the time, and accidently put in the next lower grade in a few times (have a dodge charger also that used 87-89 octane). Premium not used a lot here overall, but the Sunoco station I usually buy from has Canadian visitors that shop here with G,s Benz, etc. so the gas should be circulated regularly. Car has been running normally but starting to worry me with the smell. Going to the dealer soon. Coil maybe? Alternator? (kinda doubt that). Going to get a new battery in the spring. Suggestions, thoughts, THANKS!!

Sounds serious. I wouldn't drive it if it has a strong burning smell. Maybe drive it enough to get that smell going then stop and check under the hood and under the car right away to see if you can pinpoint it.
It couldn't be do anything simple like you spilled oil on the engine while filling it?

checked while running in the garage tonight. found nothing. could not smell anything in the engine compartment. no leaks, no oil, antifreeze was at same level as a few weeks ago. the smell comes and goes in the cabin. guess it will have to go the the dealer. I will have them check the differential

[QUOTE=conkus805;3747320]Mine has been doing the same, the smell reminds me of a new exhaust breaking in smell. 2010 w/ 54k. Car also feels like it's low on power as well. Any thoughts?[/QUOT
Power feels the same, but i will 2x check that tomorrow. didnt smell near as much today. IF previous owners used regular instead (he is a lawyer with juice so he shouldnt of!) i wonder would that affect the catalytic converter.. i will check that more closely also but i havent heard of any problems with that.,.

FOUND the surce of the odor! While cleaning the rubber mats from Goodyear (Walmart) that i got for the front i noticed a strong aroma coming from the mats. There was tons of salt and grit so i washed them off and vacuumed the caked salt from the floor. The mats had a strong rubber smell. Thats why i smelled it stronger when the floor vents were on. They're clean now and still smell. Gonna try baking soda and water and see if that helps. Next year premium mats from Husky or Weather tech.
