I've definitely been around a drift track in a GTR and I know you have the control there - I just don't see how the 7AT in the G sedans will give you the control to keep the car sideways and spin wheels.

Well obviously not for extended periods of time, no. You won't be doing any Formula D style drifts :P
But, holding it sideways through one gear as he did, is possible in the 7AT. The main issue with these cars and drifting is no usable e-brake.

I will definitely agree with this - because you can use sport mode to hold you in a gear. Your comment is correct about the e-brake - one would have to modify their center console for support of a handbrake style e-brake.
