extended warranty

Greg, thank you for your input. Lets see, I don't know too much about cars, so most of the work they would be doing. I also have 6MT so maybe it won't be worth it. I bought it brand new in June of this year so I guess I have like what? 5 years to make a decision on extended warranty.

^the way I see it, the only way a dealer would offer an extended warranty is because they make $$$ from it. I suppose it depends on how much value you put on "piece of mind" and whether you can broker a deal good enough that you think the repairs will near the up front cost of the warranty
I'm in the same boat, bought a 6MT sedan new earlier this year. My instinct is that taking care of the basic maintenance and upkeep will keep an Infiniti running fine, esp since we're the orig owners and know there was no prev abuse.
That said, my lat car (2006 Altima) had timing chain issues not long after the warranty was up, luckily I dodged the repair bill ($1K+) when I sold it. So like someone said, it's a cost/benefit situation, gamble if you want to look at it that way, I'll probably think about it when the time comes, but pass like last time

I think the Infiniti Elite is definitely worth it. Provided you get the best price on it.
I am a vehicle hypochondriac, so spending 1k - 2k for peace of mind would totally be worth it for me.

It's worth it if you end up keeping a car 5-8 years and experience a major malfunction i.e. transmission, nav, etc. It would more than pay for itself. Those are probably my two biggest concerns on these cars and most cars in general.
In the end most of us probably won't keep the car past warranty expiration anyways. For myself, it was peace of mind to pay this once and if something goes wrong down the line that isn't wear and tear, it's covered. If I have a perfect car for the 7-8 years I plan on keeping the car then I incorporate it in the total cost of ownership.
No harm, no foul.

I'll probably end up getting the warranty before the original warranty expires. My last car I bought was a 2002 Pontiac Firebird off the lot and kept that for 11 years. It was constantly giving me "Check Engine" code so I bought the G37S. I'm sure I'll keep it for 11+ years if I can just like my Firebird. It's probably true and better to get the extended warranty for the car before the current one expires.

What are you guys spending for this extended warranty? If it's $2K for a couple of extra years then it's really a waste of money. The odds that you are going to need repairs exceeding that amount in that time frame are quite remote, especially expensive engine or tranny repairs. I just find that companies love to prey on insecurities of customers by pushing these extended warranties where maybe 5-10% of the people actually get thier investment back through repairs. They wouldn't do it unless they made a crapload of money from it. I know you want piece of mind but at some point it starts to get ridiculous. Would you spend $2k on a Vegas slot machine if they told you beforehand that you have a 10% chance of making your money back? If it's a German car then it may be a good idea but the the G is pretty rock solid and doesn't usually demand expensive repairs. I just don't see the logic of handing over 2k unless you have to especially when most cars tend to fail and get expensive to fix after 10 years and 150K miles when the extended warranty has long expired.
It's like when the dealers try and scare you into spending $700 or $800 for rustproofing, fabric protection and paint protection which is basically a $100 oil spray or that hardened wax crap that tends to crack and traps moisture, a paint sealant that you could apply for about $5 yourself in 20 minutes and spraying a $10 can of Scotchguard or leather protectant.

It's pooled risk like any other insurance. You should only buy it if you can't handle the event financially in terms of cash flow (e.g. emergency surgery). Or if the event is exceedingly rare but extremely costly (e.g. house fire). Most major car repairs top out a $5-$6k, so you have to decide for yourself.

I purchased the Elite warranty for my 09 G37x. I bought the 36mo/48K mi warranty so I'm covered up to 108K miles on my car (if i keep it that long). If i regret spending the money later on i can cancel and get money back.
When i shopped around i called Infiniti in scottsdale, one other popular dealer, and my local dealer. In the end my local dealer was willing to match the price of Scottsdale so i purchased through my local dealer (didn't even need to prove what cost was offered at scottsdale Infiniti). Also i didn't have to bring my car in for inspection either.
