I believe those 500 cars are special edition models. But the 6MT is a no-cost option on any model with the inline six.
Thank you for pointing out/ clarifying that detail. I must have misread that article... Not that it matters, the car is already on my short list (and I don't like the tan leather)
I went to a big car show today. kind of sad to see the state of most Gs these days. Mismatched panels, bad fitment, bacon fenders, stupid eBay parts. Grilles that don't fit, ***** shift *****, stupid stickers, etc. The memes really are true lol
I went to a meet in a small town 45 min north of Toronto and was pleasantly surprised. Permitted meet with food truck and stage truck. Lots of very nice builds, some very over the top, some very well done, some just average, but nothing that was an eyesore. No stupid 2stepping, no burnouts. Considering the state of the scene where I live, this was old school and refreshing. And the only Gs there were very clean. There is hope lol.
@hexotic remember when I met you at a VQnorth meetup? Most of those cars were pretty great. Only a handful of hoopties. Of course, that was what... 5 or 6 years ago?

Yeah, the scene definitely changed a bit since then lol.

I hate to say it but I'd rather see 350z's and G35/37's hooptied than the Japanese cars from the 90's. A greater pool of the former to pick from, and fewer "classics" being abused.
I agree with @FrogmanKouki up to a point. The focus of the scene has changed towards these chassis.
Better chassis, better electronics, ability to keep AC while shennanigating = leaving 90s cars alone.
90s are getting expensive however Z/Gs are deteriorating much faster than 90s cars.

This weekend I was in this little town between Buffalo and Rochester, and found myself gawking at this perfectly restored 1985 Trans Am. On my way out, the owner and his wife happened by, and I flagged him down before he pulled away, just to talk. Turns out it wasn't restored at all, but instead was 100% original, with an untouched original finish, and he was the original owner, having bought the car new 37 years ago. I knew it was an '85 for a variety of trim reasons, matched up to the lack of a 3rd brake light. He was so happy that I called it out correctly as an '85, and grinning ear-2-ear with my compliments. Wow, this car was in such perfect condition, it was amazing. I should have asked him how many miles were on it, but if there were more than 20k, I'd be shocked.
My point is, sometimes cars don't deteriorate, and are the fortunate recipients of a fanatic who takes care of them. Those cars are cool, no matter what they are.
Ironically, my wife's Subaru Forester has about as much HP as that old T/A, and is probably faster, and handles better. But it doesn't really matter... cool is cool.

I'm much more appalled by an automotive enthusiasts who keeps a brand new vehicle for this long.
Like what inspired you to get into X chassis and what made you keep it original.

Appalled?
Maintaining a brand new car in pristine, original condition for nearly 40 years is his hobby. Might not be your hobby, but it make him happy.
Had my '97 fbody 6mt for 14 years. It was a surprisingly utilitarian car, esp with the back seats down. It was time to get rid of it when cost of repairs exceeded its value. Not to mention every gasket was leaking in some manner.
