Man I’m only 19 now but when I was 16 I really wanted a 240sx until I found out they’re like $10000 for an auto with like 300k km on it. My uncle sold his shell for $500 10 years ago, I bet he regrets it big time now.

I personally like the r34 the most, but it’s never gonna be worth buying, some of the r34 gtrs in Canada cost more than a 2020 nismo gtr now.

I miss the heck out of my old Nissan. It's the one car I have lots of regrets letting go.

Here's an actual picture of my 240SX Coupe 5MT, from about 25 years ago.



Purchased this car brand new in 1992. Actually a 3 year lease then a 3 year note. But all the miles were mine.

The MSRP was $14,500, if I recall correctly.

I got to long-term borrow a R34GTR (not V-spec) in Japan when I was back and forth with the air force in the 90s. It was glorious.

The one I saw last night looked a dark metallic teal (but it was late and dark). Car looked OK and it had an Apexi / HKS style single exit on it that sounded mean. Driver was definitely driving assertively - I felt my busted diff mount beat the bottom of the car 2-3 times trying to catch up with him and my traction control was displeased.

I know where he/she works now, so I can troll the parking lot maybe and put a note on the windshield. We used to have business cards for the Mazda Sports Car Club with our logo that said "Nice car. Want to meet up with others like it?" and our web address, I can do something like that.

That sounds a little creepy, but I understand the honest intent.

Yesterday a guy in a Q60S saw me leave the parking lot of a local grocery store, and started following me. It went on for a while. At first I was flattered, but after a while I was hoping he'd just go away, LOL. He did, eventually, with a little wave.

On my way home from college a older man around 50-60 with his wife. Was trying to race me, riding my *** slowing down and speeding up to be beside me. He was driving a early 2000’s s550. I gave the xs the beans and gapped the benz by a lot. The guys stopped chasing me afterwards XD

Used to be my dream car. Got to see two in person, yes both R34 GTRs: One grey and the other millennium jade. I was so disappointed. Not my style car and was basically the "Never meet your hero" situation. So many better cars out there for the prices they are climbing. The R34 would be worth the buy for at the most $50,000. The whole affordable tuner concept is dying off them since most owners now keep them as garage queens and they're being collected by collectors to store and sell them once 2025 hits which explains the price influx.

The reaction to the GT-R is probably due to 4 things- absolutely dominating racing with the R32, a cast iron block inline 6 cylinder motor that was pretty bullet proof up to about 1,000 hp like a Supra, ATESSA-ETS AWD, and Fast & the Furious (especially the R34). I agree with you a bit as they all have to be 25 years old to legally own here and a lot has changed with cars in 25 years so the performance stock is worse than a lot of current cars.

However, I do have a soft spot for the R33 as I think it really exemplifies the styling of Nissan's sportiest cars of the late 90's when they were actually focused on performance in their street cars and they were still racing well. The R33 becomes legal in the U.S. next year so I am considering one, but curious to see the pricing as everyone drools over the R34 due to Fast & Furious and I hope the same thing does not happen to the R33 pricing. I actually think Nissan might be coming full circle and focusing on performance cars again. They do have some big product releases coming. I really hope the new Z is good too.




My attachment to the R33 is probably due to what you said about the 240SX. It does look similar and I drooled all over the S14 when it came out. For my 1st car I was looking at a GTI, 200SX SE-R, or a Subaru 2.5RS. I ended up getting the Subaru for the AWD and rally car looks and for the better part of a decade I tuned and raced Subarus. I wonder what would have happened if I got the SE-R instead.

Back in 1992, I was cross-shopping the 240SX against the Honda Prelude, the Acura Integra and the Mazda MX6. I really liked the smooth 6-cyl in the Mazda, but didn't want to pay the premium to get it. Sames goes for the Ford Probe SE (which was essentially the same car as the MX6, in partnership between Mazda and Ford.) The Supra was out of reach for my wallet. And there was nothing domestic that was interesting.

In the end, I decided I liked the RWD, and overall design, of the Nissan as the best fit for me at the time.

Funny how it's been almost 30 years. Feels like yesterday.

Right there with you. I wanted a Supra Turbo, girlfriend had a Probe SE, ended up with Mk1 MR-2.

I miss that little car.

This is going to be a little out there, especially for our conservative build forums here: Has anyone ever "off road" / "battle style"'ed a G35/7 Sedan? I'm talking with a roof basket, big meaty off road tires, light bar etc? Just thinking this could be pretty fun for my X in Wisconsin...
