Hahaha. Nice little review there, John. I've ridden in a P100d, but haven't driven one yet. But it does seem tremendously faster than the P85d I drove a couple of years back, especially from the passenger's seat. I completely agree with you on the interior (it really just seems very american to me - and not in a good way), but I'm really surprised to hear that you liked the handling. Unless they have changed the suspension considerably in the past couple of years, I found the steering to be too light and way to numb and the handling was just underwhelming. The car felt heavy and unresponsive to me. Guessing that maybe they have reworked the suspension for the newer and higher priced P100d, which would be an obvious evolution.

Incidentally, I recently had a buddy trade in his P100d for a Hell Cat and he actually said that the Hell Cat felt a bit slow after driving the Tesla for the past year... That really says something about how hard these Tesla's really accelerate. The reason he got rid of the Tesla... too boring he said. There truly is no replacement for displacement. ;-)

Its funny how growing up, I was always of the liberal mindset where socialism was a great idea for all. Now that my hard earned money is spent on our prime minsters 200k vacation, while people are losing homes over growing hydro bills, Im becoming more and more conservative.
Oh hell... Quite rubbing it in, Andy. I have to write the IRS a nice big check every year and that's after paying nearly 35% on everything I made. And our gas prices are also $4 / gallon here in CA so that's no help to us either. My wife wants to move to Costa Rica and that option is really starting to look better and better to me.

The interior is spartan. Quite nice, but not "luxurious" by any means. More like a $50 car... and certainly not the 6 figures this thing costs. The giant screen is actually quite a distraction when driving. Trying to operate the radio or the HVAC controls through the touch screen is a total PITA.

The drive-by-wire is good, but a little numb. Fortunately, the steering wheel is excellent. Thick and padded with a flat bottom. And the handling was positively heroic, partly because of the AWD, and in part because of the gigantic 21" Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

But man oh man... the power this car has! It was incredible. The very first time I went full throttle from a standing stop in Ludicrous Mode almost made me faint. And I'm not kidding. It launched so hard, with such incredible rush, that I actually lost my balance, along with my breath. It was very disorienting, and actually a little scary. Never in my life experienced anything like that.

Oh, and regenerative braking is awesome! The best way I can describe it for 6MT owners is like driving around always in 2nd gear.

It's been hours, and thinking back on this experience still gets me wound up. I need to decompress.

Out of curiosity, John. Did your neighbor get the "+2 jumper seat option" in the rear hatch? That option gives you too absolutely tiny rearward facing seats that fold into the floor of the rear hatch. A friend of mine has these in her Tesla S and they look terribly dangerous and I can't even believe they would be legal for use in the US, even for children.

No. He's a widower (recently, too... really sad). No kids or grandkids, etc. So there's really no point to it.

On the upside, without the rear-facing third row, there's a rather large storage area available. Between that, the HUGE hatch/trunk space, and the "frunk", there's a whole lot of places to pack things.

Sorry to hear that. I'm not sure what I would do if that happened to me. Must be tough to suddenly be all alone. Really feel for the guy.

Glad he didn't get the 3rd row seat. It's pretty much useless, and as you said, it just takes up valuable cargo space in the floor of the rear hatch. My friend didn't even know she had those seats until months after buying the car and she didn't want them either. She's almost retired and has no use for those extra seats. She actually wants to remove them to try and gain the extra cargo space.

I can agree with that. I want to hear AND feel my acceleration. I agree the P cars are engineering marvels and very impressive, but I'm not ready to give up my grunt, grumble, rumble, etc

Paid a visit to Soho Motorsports today in Monroe, NC to get my Fast Intentions RHFC installed. Job was done in an hour and I was impressed.

First impressions of my FI-Tanabe combination is good. I will post a more complete review/video when I get the chance in the Exhaust thread. I can finally say I'm content with my exhaust.

Soho did my rear differential bushings and I was really impressed with their work.

A vid would be nice

I think this coming week I'm going to connect with my mechanic, to get on his schedule for the rear gears & bushings. Haven't done any kind of power-performance mod in two years, when the catback went on the car.

Starting to get psyched!

No... it's close for sure but like a couple of inches. Should not be hitting at all.

Random question that I always wondered since buying my G. What's the deal with infiniti not manufacturing cars under IPL anymore? The only vehicles I see that were IPLs are the older coupes and verts from 2011-2013 I believe. Am I just missing something?

When I see a mercedes AMG and BMW's M series releasing new vehicles to their line each yr, the thought runs across my mind at what the heck happened to Infiniti producing vehicles under their performance line? I feel like Infiniti missed a chance to build some prestige to their line by not creating LEGIT IPL vehicles each yr since launching it. I assume it's completely scratched because the Red Sport could have been placed in that line if they cared to revive it I'm guessing, but they went with "Red Sport" instead.... Idk

So I'm putting my coils on this weekend, but knowing I want to go pretty damn low with little to no gap, would you guys recommend a fender roll? As it sits now the wheels damn near stick out a few mm, and I don't want to risk any rubbing. Pics:

AMG and BMW's M division are more or less standalone companies that work on other cars too. AMG for example builds engines for some supercars. Infiniti wanted to have a similar thing, but closer to Nissan's NISMO, and Toyoya's TRD. Basically a division of the company that develops more performance oriented modifications to their factory lineup, and is part of their racing team, etc. Once Infiniti separated from Nissan as a sub brand, and became its own company in 2013, the leadership decided to go more in the direction of luxury and tech. This is one of the reason the EAU Rouge was shelved. Now, they are seeing a need for a performance division, but instead of throwing a label on it like IPL, they decided to go with colour coding their model names. This, is where the Red and Black S came from.

This is more or less how it was explained to me.
