As far as the trim wrap, it's a pretty easy DIY, takes a couple hours and costs $20, that's what I'd do

Hard to resist when people want you to launch. I blame Cars & Coffee.

Over the last couple months, there have been a number of moments where I go to start my car, and I get no response. Just a dead plastic button. I freeze, and think to myself, "Did that just happen?" So I press the ignition button again, and it's all good; car starts right up. It's been happening enough now for me to think there's a pattern, and to expect it. Still, it only happens a few times a week.
So... is this symptomatic of a dying fob battery? How long do these things last? Mine is easily 6 years old.
Yesterday I started on a little test, and from that point on I'll be inserting the fob into its dashboard slot below the trunk release switch, instead of keeping it in my pocket. Figure to do that for a while and see if this happens again. I need to go research what it means to use that slot. I never have before.

I've been getting the low battery icon since last winter. It went away when the temps warmed up. Few weeks ago it came back intermittently. Figured it was time to replace the battery - 4 1/2 years.
The fob orifice uses induction to energize the fob and attempt authentication. Similar to a rfid tag. If your battery is really weak, the door buttons and trunk release won't work either. That was not the case in my case. In fact, no load voltage was around 2.8 or 2.9V, new battery was 3.2V.
Either way, I bought a bunch as I use them in the computers too. Amazon or ebay, sony brand, 2026 expiration - ~$5 for a pack of 10.

$5 for a pack of ten? Heck, I only need two.
Not having much success searching Amazon for variations on "infiniti nissan key fob remote battery"...
Would that be CR2025? Can you confirm that, jsolo?

This is what I got.
10 Fresh Genuine Sony CR2032 ECR2032 3V Coin Button Batteries Expiration 2026 | eBay
They might have packs of 5 too.
They're CR2032's, not 2025's.
